Fall and spring semesters at Elizabethtown College can get quite cold. Pennsylvania can have some pretty harsh winters, so it's important to come prepared with some winter gear. Boots, for both rain and snow, are an absolute must-have. Many students, both male and female, wear knit caps and gloves throughout most of the cold weather. Definitely come prepared with a heavy-duty umbrella, as it often gets quite windy when it rains. Not many of the buildings are connected, although they are clustered in the same area, so students do spend a lot of time traveling outdoors in the cold weather.
At the beginning of the fall semester and end of the spring semester, the weather is gorgeous. Every day that's sunny, there are students sitting out in the sun on picnic blankets or playing pick-up sports in one of the open fields. The Dell, an open field for student recreation, is often littered with sun bathers and Frisbee players. Many students also choose to sit out and enjoy the nice weather on the patio in front of the Commons.
