Alcohol is noticeable but not more so than most college campuses. Students can gain access to alcohol fairly easily, especially if they are in a fraternity, but binge drinking is far rarer. Most students only drink on the weekends because freshmen soon realize that waking up at 7 a.m. with a hangover isn’t the most enjoyable, and missing class can cause you to fail. Other drugs besides alcohol are used much less frequently. Marijuana is easily the second most popular drug used, but it is rarely seen on campus. Other drug use includes LSD and ecstasy, but they are not visible and much more difficult to obtain.
The RAs and campus security do catch students on a regular basis with alcohol and drugs. Alcohol penalties are usually just warnings, and no serious action is usually taken until a fifth or sixth offense. Marijuana use in the dorms usually calls for more action because it sets off the fire alarms. So, don’t keep alcohol or drugs in your room because during fire alarms the RAs do thorough room checks and will find these things if they are not hidden very well.
