The campus is beautiful and taken very well care of. The library is semi outdated but I believe they are slowly working on it as well as the classrooms

All depends on the major

there is a high-security prison within 5 miles, the city itself has poor areas that make it seem scary. Outside of the city there is activities that you are able to do
College Senior 2013-11-14T23:43:14Z
Overall its great, mainly all depends which dorm you live in.
College Senior 2013-11-14T23:42:18Z
Permit cost= $0 for full-time students, part-time is $30, still not that bad compared to the hundreds some schools charge. Ticketing is minimal if you following parking polices, over not that expensive.

There are some labs, during finals they get packed early. FREE PRINTING ON CAMPUS!! No limits. Network is alright when plugged in, the wifi can get slow especially during times when everyone is using it (late at night, mid-terms, finals). Accessibility is getting better they have recently made it so there is wifi in dorms but its slow and not always strong. I would suggest a personal computer but i supposed you don't NEED one nor a printer
College Senior 2013-11-14T23:36:05Z
there is a zero drug policy and they are pretty strict about it
College Senior 2013-11-14T23:35:08Z
there isnt off-campus housing for full time students, they are required to live on campus. Unless they are from the area and some other details
College Senior 2013-11-14T23:33:48Z
More lenient on alcohol in all ways, zero drug policy
College Senior 2013-11-14T23:31:58Z
There isnt much nightlife, there are bars around but the locals are often there as well.
College Senior 2013-11-14T23:30:47Z
It's easy, if you get into the college you get into whatever program you want
College Senior 2013-11-14T23:30:47Z
Depends on your major, most majors you have to find your own there is a department that is there to help. Nursing and education majors basically get theirs figured out for them
College Senior 2013-11-14T23:29:15Z
There are a variety of chain restaurants like Applebee's as well as fast food. There is a 24 hour Mc. Donald's like a 3 min drive

Getting scholarships are pretty easy, its keeping them that proves more difficult. You may have to keep an certain GPA to maintain you scholarship but depending on your major that could be difficult to do

Not very diverse except for international students.

No need for off-campus parking here

It is an okay school but looking back I wish I had looked at more schools and chosen one that is not the same size as my high school.

Freshman writing has a heavy workload but most other classes are average.

I'm gonna be real with everyone. I think it's frustrating to read so many reviews that are not on point so I want to just be honest about my experience at Elmira College. Everyone experiences something different even if they're in the same place.
It's not a terrible place but the town is not safe and there is NOTHING do DAMNNN. Students receive emails from the president about incidents that take place on and off campus, such as people getting jumped or touched inappropriately by a townie. Most students do not feel at ease walking around on campus at night, let alone off campus. I am not exaggerating; someone rolled down their window and asked my roommate and I to go home with him in broad daylight as we were waiting for the bus. Also, my friend and I have been chased by someone driving their car for no apparent reason. Campus Security doesn't seem to be doing their job. No offense to anyone in Elmira, but most of the people here do not have great living conditions and many people are very sketchy as a result. It's unfortunate.
I'm the kind of person who likes to have a great party to go to when I'm in the mood for one. No such things as a good party exists at EC. If you wanna just stand around, not dance, get drunk, and scout for someone to hook up with that night, then you will have plenty of options. But, if you really just wanna have a good time with your friends, you're not gonna be able to whenever you want to. Good parties are rare.
THE FOOD...omg. It's all just so bad for you. EC is trying to improve. This year they brought in more gluten free options to cater to students who have a gluten allergy, which I think is great. EC is on the right path, but as of now, almost everything has too much oil, butter, and cheese, and not enough flavor. One of the dining centers was recently closed down because it failed to pass the inspection. And since I used to work in that particular place, I know that it was gross. I saw roaches crawl out of the napkin basket. No joke.
The academics isn't bad at all. The nursing program is pretty rigorous. However, how much you learn and how much you enjoy or don't enjoy the class usually depends on the professor...just like any school. Some professors are a joke. They're just there because they want something relatively easy to do in their older age-their words, not mine! lol. Some professors don't care to make class interesting for the students. They just read off a PowerPoint and you have to put in the extra effort to make sure you're keeping up with the material for a quiz or exam.Others care more and will make class pretty fun.
The dorms are not bad. I can give EC that much. But I haven't been to too many other colleges to compare. The college doesn't offer regular trips to the mall hourly or daily which sucks for anyone who doesn't have a car. But there's always the bus that comes right by the college. But seriously, a lot of the people who take the bus in EC (the townies) have issues going on in their lives which makes the bus ride pretty depressing. EC needs more diversity when it comes to the students' ethnic background as well as their social class. The international students mostly come from the Bahamas or Canada. And seriously, let me tell you...as an International student, I do not consider Canada to be that international when it's part of North America and has mostly the same values and cultures as the US in comparison to many other countries. I can't think of anything else to rate EC on but basically I feel like they are not honest with people who take tours. My friend is a tour guide and they gave me a tour for practice. Based on how the tour went, I would have chosen to come to EC. The person giving the tour was told what they can and can't say. That's totally unfair in my opinion. I get that it's a marketing strategy but what you see is really not what you get. Ask most people and they can attest to that. That's it from me. I hope this is helpful to anyone who is considering coming here. Just make sure you go to the school you really want to go to if you can. Don't settle. :)
Sorry, there are no reviews.
