Most Popular Sports
Ice hockey is Elmira College's premier sport. The men's team frequently visits the Frozen Four, with many other championships under its belt. The women's team is also popular and competitive. All hockey games take place at the Murray Athletic Center, which is located off campus. The College provides a shuttle for students during big games.
Most Overlooked Teams
Some of the overlooked teams include many outdoor sports, like lacrosse and field hockey.
School Spirit
Elmira College students are very intense when it comes to school spirit. Many events at the College are built on the concept. Students often organize in groups for athletic outings to support teams at home and away; there is even a club known as the "Extreme Eagles" that makes it their job to cheer the loudest at events. Other activities on campus, such as Mountain Day singing, promote school spirit. Students sing the traditional Elmira College songs in front of the president's home, with the hopes that classes will be canceled for a day in the fall.
Getting Tickets
For most EC home games, tickets are free. The exception is playoff games for hockey. Students can purchase tickets for the event at the Murray Athletic Center located off campus. The Murray Athletic Center was the world's first geodesic athletic building and can hold up to 3,200 hockey fans.
Best Place to Take a Walk
The Ithaca Gorges, about a 40-minute drive from campus, offer beautiful and well-groomed hiking/walking trails. The Elmira College campus itself is a great place to walk during the summertime, and if you're feeling adventurous to go off campus, try walking around Strathmont, a beautiful and historic section of West Elmira.
