Elmira College does not have a Greek life system in place, which is one of the reasons that students choose EC in the first place. For Elmira College, Greek letters are more commonly associated with honors societies that promote academic excellence and a sense of community. Elmira College is small enough that Greek life parties are not needed to fuel campus nightlife.
Moreover, the unity that is often associated with Greek life is cultivated among classmates who share the same class year. Classwide unity is very important at Elmira College, and there are many events (such as Mountain Day, Holiday Banquet Weekend, 100 Days, and Senior Week) that are designed to help build a strong sense of unity. Other organizations, such as clubs and varsity and junior varsity sports, strengthen that bond, as well. While the school doesn't have fraternities and sororities to excite school spirit, Elmira College has other avenues to ensure unity.
