College Prowler Take
There tend to be jokes among college students that campus food is just plain awful and that one of the reasons why the “Freshman 15” exists is because everyone tends to eat fast food because it’s the most edible stuff on campus! At Elon, this is not true. Yes, like any other college campus, there are rumors about the food, as well as the group of students who cannot find a single good thing about the on-campus meals. But on the whole, Elon has had a lot of success with their meal plan program and the food they serve through Aramark. There is a variety of foods, so each student is accommodated, from the student with stomach problems to the pickiest vegetarian—all needs can be met. The extensive dining Web site offers daily menus and nutritional information for all on-campus dining establishments. And of course, if what’s on the menu doesn’t please you, there is always fast food in Octagon Café, including a pizza bar, Chick-fil-A, Grille Works, and Ben and Jerry’s ice cream! Pan-Geos, which is connected to Octagon, has a wrap, pasta, and salad bar that's updated daily. Downstairs Colonnades offers boar's head sandwiches for two meal swipes, as well as a salad bar for personalized orders. In Upstairs Colonnades, Harden and Upstairs McEwen are all-you-care-to-eat and carry what you would see in a normal college cafeteria—salads, desserts, cereals, entrees, etc. The food is amazingly good. Varsity is the new sit-down on-campus restaurant that serves food off the grill. It has banners of all the colleges in the Southern Conference, and the walls are decorated with blown-up photos of Elon athletes in action for a sense of sports pride. Brown & Co has great food, as well. The Acorn acts as the campus coffee house, providing sushi, soups, personalized sandwiches, muffins, croissants, bagels, and all different flavors of Starbuck’s coffee. Next to Octagon is Freshens, a smoothie and frozen yogurt place that accepts meal plans and meal dollars. It’s delicious!

Octagon Café and Acorn Coffee Shop...
Octagon Café and Acorn Coffee Shop are really good. The dining halls are okay, too. |

The food on campus is pretty good; there is variety and options for vegetarians. Harden is the best dining hall because it offers the most healthy options combined with junk food if you want it. There are also several restaurants in the area that take Phoenix Cash. |

The best place to dine is Harden...
The best place to dine is Harden Dining Hall. McEwen Dining Hall can be good sometimes on holidays like Thanksgiving, but if you want the pasta bar (which doesn’t taste like real pasta too much) or imitation Chinese food, don’t expect much quality. The Acorn Coffee Shop has real convenient and good food and beverages that would rock anyone’s health-paranoid habits or a junkie’s food choices. Stay away from Varsity; the food takes too long and is too expensive. |

The best place to eat, bar none,...
The best place to eat, bar none, is Harden Dining Hall. It always has a diversified menu, but has some constants if you like the same old, same old. For a quick bite, both Danieley Center Commons and Downstairs McEwen are desirable. |

Compared to other friends’ schools...
Compared to other friends’ schools and meal plans, ours is really user friendly: lots of options from wraps, pastas, salad, sushi, coffee, pastries, to pizza or Chick-fil-A. The Acorn makes good sandwiches and baked goods. Freshens has good smoothies and ice cream. |
