College Prowler Take

Each student is going to have different technology needs, but one thing is for sure—you’re going to have to use a computer at Elon. Bringing your own computer enables you to work whenever you need to without having to wait in line for a computer at a lab. When you’re really busy with all sorts of projects, it’s easier to work from your own room than take a 10-minute walk to the library. Elon offers student discounts for Dell and Apple computers and has allowed students to link their wireless computers with the print network so that students can print directly from their personal computers. Also, many students prefer to take notes on laptops and will bring their computers to class if the professor allows.

The campus has an extensive wireless network that allows students to access the Internet from many different places around campus, both in buildings and outdoors. This can be a great advantage when you want to sit somewhere public to study, do research, or just check e-mail between classes. Campus Security services offers free engraving to recover any lost items, which is always a good idea even on a campus as safe as Elon’s.

Definitely bring your own computer, because not only are the computer labs always crowded, the first floor of the library is a loud social scene!

Every dorm has high speed Internet access. There are five computer labs including the three level library, which are only crowded around exam time. Otherwise, there’s always an open computer.

I can always find a computer to use. Whether it’s checking out a laptop to use in the library or sit outside with and still be online—it just gets hectic during exam time. I brought my own laptop, and I think it would be extremely hard not to have a computer on campus just for talking on IM, checking email or working in my room.
