Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Elon has what we call “deferred rush,” meaning that you cannot rush a Greek organization until at least the second semester of freshman year. You must also have a minimum GPA of 2.75 for women or a 2.5 for men before rushing. Elon is comprised of 21 Greek organizations, in addition to a variety of Greek honor societies, such as Phi Kappa Phi and Omicron Delta Kappa. About 35 percent of Elon students are Greek. Most sophomores live in the Greek housing, which includes a house manager who acts as an RA for the house. Elon prohibits hazing and has severe repercussions for organizations that don’t comply with the standards set by Greek life. You don’t have to be Greek to go to the parties; you just have to be on the guest list for on-campus Greek house parties. All on-campus parties are BYOB, and you must be over 21 to bring alcohol.

A lot of Greeks participate in campus-wide activities, such as Homecoming and intramural sports. They have a ton of spirit; most Greeks are proud of their fraternity/sorority and will speak very highly of Greek life. Even though only about a third of the campus is Greek, they are very dominant, both in everyday life and in leadership positions throughout campus. There is never a day that goes by that you won’t see someone wearing a pin, t-shirt, hat, or bag with his or her letters on it.

Elon Life = Greek Life

I realize that sororities and fraternities are important to some students for socialization and other reasons, but it seems that EVERYONE is Greek at Elon. When I didn't rush a sorority this Spring, I felt completely ostracized. If you want to fit in and be accepted by these snobs, go Greek.

Greeks Are Everywhere, but Its Ok

Greek life seems to be everywhere on campus, and especially spring semester it seems like everyone is Greek. But they dont tend to be really snobby or elitist, and girls can always get into Fraternity parties. Guys have a harder time but there is always at least one where they can get in. There is always other stuff on campus to do if you'd rather not be a part of Greek life.

Great!

Greek Life is something that almost everyone wants to get involved in at Elon. Im a girl currently going through rush and there are 9 sororities which is quite a bit. Despite some dumb stereotypes, all of them definitely have something to offer and as far as i know almost everyone enjoys it. It is also good because though it is a big part of Elon life, you can be involved in many many things at once.
