College Prowler Take
Although food on campus is not bad at all, sometimes you just need a steak or hamburger! Two of the best things about off-campus dining are that oftentimes students are given discounts if they have their Phoenix cards, and a lot of places deliver right to your dorm room. Some of those places that deliver, like Domino’s, accept Phoenix cash and will take your account number over the phone for easy payment. One thing you’ll find little of around Elon is ethnic or independent restaurants. The area offers mostly chain and corporate food services, and there is little in the way of local competition. This bothers some people because the food isn’t as varied and you lose a lot of atmosphere, but Elon and nearby Burlington are flooded with these businesses. Off-campus dining is still one of the best ways to hang out with friends and go on dates because it does present something different from campus (albeit a chain-restaurant atmosphere). Many students like to take Friday nights to go out, see a movie, and then head on over to one of the local restaurants. However, dining is mostly casual, and sometimes you have to wait forever to get a table. On Orientation weekends, the lines are out the door with patrons.

There are lots of choices for off-campus restaurants, but not really any restaurants within walking distance. Everything is within four miles, though. Southbound Sandwich Works on Church Street makes some great sandwiches. Dan Thai on Church Street has great prices for lunch menus. Tuscany Grill in the Food Lion plaza has excellent service!

There are many great restaurants off campus. There are really only Mexican and American restaurants and one Italian restaurant. I wish there were more options and maybe a few on campus. It's hard for freshmen and even some sophomores to get off campus to enjoy the dining. My favorites at Alamance Crossing are Olive Garden, Red Bowl, Mimi's Café, Moe's, and Qdoba.

There are great options for off-campus dining. There is a variety of fast food joints, as well as barbecue, Mexican, Italian, and Indian, but I would love to see more vegetarian restaurants. There aren't any good off-campus options that you can walk to; you have to drive about 10 minutes. I like Sal's, Vessuvio's, Pancheros, and Namaste, and I have heard that Red Bowl is good, too.

Did You Know? For many off-campus restaurants, tanning salons, and nail places, you can use Phoenix cash. It’s a great perk and a way to treat yourself during a stressful week! Want coupons? No problem! Local restaurants usually pass out ?yers to the Elon Mail Center, so students get discount coupons in their mailboxes for a variety of restaurants.
