Awful Parking
F
Parking at Elon is awful. You can never find a spot and if you live off-campus you might as well just walk because there is a good chance you won't find a spot, so don't waste your money on a parking pass. And don't leave your car for one minute in the wrong lot, you will get towed asap.

E-rides and safe rides are great for when you are drunk at night. The long lines are a turn off, but it still beats walking or risking a dui

Zero Diversity
F
to prospective students, be warned: if going to a diverse school is important to you, don't go to elon. irregardless of what the admissions office says, nearly every person you meet at elon is white, upper-middle class, and from either north carolina, jersey, or massachusettts.

Like everyone else has said, I love Elon. There are so many opportunities, especially when it comes to study abroad programs (the winter term programs are fantastic), internships, and student research that I sometimes forget that I go to a small school. Elon is really climbing the college totem pole right now, and I think that my education is going to help me get into grad school and eventually secure a job.

All of the frats have multiple off-campus houses where most parties are held on the weekends. On weekdays the bars are always open, but that's really only helpful to students over 21. There's always something going on, and a lot of students are really into partying.

There isn't much drug use on campus. It isn't a big thing at Elon, but this of course depends on who you hang out with. You will see some people smoking pot, but usually it's not a regular thing, just when people go out. People don't really smoke cigarettes either, and it will be rare to see this. Drinking is much more common on campus, and there are bars on campus so there is always something to do.

Usually students at Elon move off campus after sophomore year. It is rare to find a junior or senior still living on campus. Off-campus housing is expensive, but it's very easy to find and a lot easier on the drinking atmosphere. Almost all legitimate parties are off campus, so it is definitely worth it. All off-campus housing is located within a half-mile of campus, so there are no problems with getting to class quickly.

The drug scene is not that big, although it depends on who you hang out with. If people are doing drugs, they're usually just smoking pot. Drinking is a much more popular activity.

The Greek scene plays a pretty big role in the social scene. On- and off-campus Greek parties are always a big hit, but the bar scene is minimal. There are three bars total.

There is an incredible amount of off-campus housing all within walking distance and even some a little farther. Parking is never a problem, and there are even trams that run routes to most off-campus apartment complexes and street corners. The housing is pretty affordable as well.

There aren't really parties on campus because our campus is pretty small. But the parties usually occur in the off-campus fraternity or athletic houses within walking distance. A lot of the nightlife is hosted by Greek organizations, but luckily, for the most part everyone is welcome, and it is free of charge. During the week, the majority of the people who go out go to one of the three bars---West End for dancing, Sandy's for heavy drinking and dancing, and Lighthouse for kareoke or bands.

The parties are good at West End Apartments. There is a variety of places like Brick House that are just dirty and usually owned by rude people looking to exploit girls. Sandy's and West End Bar are fun but getting over-crowded. Never go to Lighthouse.

There are lots of choices for off-campus restaurants, but not really any restaurants within walking distance. Everything is within four miles, though. Southbound Sandwich Works on Church Street makes some great sandwiches. Dan Thai on Church Street has great prices for lunch menus. Tuscany Grill in the Food Lion plaza has excellent service!

There are many great restaurants off campus. There are really only Mexican and American restaurants and one Italian restaurant. I wish there were more options and maybe a few on campus. It's hard for freshmen and even some sophomores to get off campus to enjoy the dining. My favorites at Alamance Crossing are Olive Garden, Red Bowl, Mimi's Café, Moe's, and Qdoba.

I wish varsity sports were a bigger deal at Elon, although our teams are definitely improving, which is increasing support. All of the fraternities and sororities have big tailgates before the home football games, which are a ton of fun to go to! Intramurals are a lot of fun and a great way to get involved and meet people; many students participate in them. Inter-sorority and inter-fraternity leagues are also fun!

Housing is guaranteed for all four years, which is nice, but almost all students move off campus junior year, many even sophomore year. Finding an apartment or house is very easy and is cheaper than living on campus in many cases. Because Elon is so small, everything is located very close to campus. Elon is trying to make living on campus junior and senior year more appealing, and they have recently built the Oaks and the Colonnades which are both extremely nice options.

There are great options for off-campus dining. There is a variety of fast food joints, as well as barbecue, Mexican, Italian, and Indian, but I would love to see more vegetarian restaurants. There aren't any good off-campus options that you can walk to; you have to drive about 10 minutes. I like Sal's, Vessuvio's, Pancheros, and Namaste, and I have heard that Red Bowl is good, too.

Varsity sports are getting better, but a lot of students don't really watch them on a regular basis. Intramurals are just to get out and play. People aren't necessarily good at the sports the play in IMs. Club sports is a nice balance between the two and isn't too time consuming.

The parties in the Greek courts on campus are always fun and entertaining. There is one major bar off campus that has a patio, dance floor, and pool table area. The entire town of Elon is liquor-dry, so bars and restaurants can only serve beer, wine, and malt beverages.

Elon is definitely becoming known...
Elon is definitely becoming known as a "party school." Many students go out three or more times per week, usually starting with small get togethers and working their way to the few bars that are adjacent to campus. Lighthouse Tavern used to be a student favorite, but since its purchase by the University, its popularity has decreased greatly. West End Bar is a popular location, while Sandy's Bar and Grill is a more casual spot to spend your evening. Brown and Company is a University-owned dining facility that serves alcohol. It is becoming increasingly popular among students because you can begin an evening of drinking with your dinner, and your university allocated meal dollars and Phoenix Cash can actually be used to purchase alcohol here. During the weekends, fraternity parties are always a safe bet, whether they are at the on-campus houses or the off-campus privately owned fraternity houses.

The teachers are one in a million, so to speak. They offer a lot of wisdom and knowledge to us, as students. I would describe them as generous, devoted, and willing to give anything they can to help students achieve better standards and excel further than they thought possible. The classes are extremely interesting, if you take a class that was interesting to you to begin with. There are some teachers that can make a class particularly boring, but what class is not, at times? |
