Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

The average student doesn’t play varsity sports at Emerson, and chances are his or her friends don’t either. In fact, it’s possible that the average student doesn’t even know that Emerson has sports teams. Though team members and their roommates, friends, and parents may attend Emerson’s varsity sports events, there is very little awareness—and even less support—on campus. Emerson competes against Suffolk University, Southern Vermont College, Emmanuel College, and Johnson & Wales University, among other schools in the Greater Northeastern Athletic Conference and Eastern College Athletic Conference. As for playing sports non-competitively, Emerson doesn’t have many options. Your best bet would be to try to organize a group to meet in the Common and play Frisbee. Another option is to participate in activities scheduled by the fitness center, such as aerobics, yoga, personal fitness, or weight training.

There are very few intramural options available. The school is attempting to add more, and Emerson's new gymnasium and athletic facility may help, but knowing the typical Emerson student, the interest for intramural teams isn’t likely to grow.

Pathetic

Our new gym facility is beautiful, but our teams are an embarrassment. Furthermore, you can only use the brand new gym facilities if you're on an athletic team, otherwise you have to work out in a different gym which is pretty crappy.

F*** Quidditch

If you wanna come to this school to do a real sport, expect nothing more than hobby fulfillment. It seems like more people play Quidditch here than all the other sports combined.

Quidditch!!!

Sports aren't a huge thing in that you won't get a sports scholarship. However, people are recruited to play all types of sports. The biggest is Quidditch, which is a huge deal here at Emerson. There are games in the Boston Common every Sunday and they compete against other schools and at the World Cup every year. Other sports are a big deal, but Quidditch is the most popular.

Most Popular Sports

Although Emerson has been known more for its extensive attention to the liberal arts rather than athletics, the building of the gymnasium at 150 Boylston St. has slowly started to bolster interest in sports. Basketball is quickly drawing large crowds, due in part to the excellence of the men’s and women’s teams and the visual flair of the dance team.

School Spirit

Emerson students have a quiet way of showing school spirit. In fact, many don’t show any at all. But just because sports events don’t rally school spirit, that doesn’t mean that Emerson students aren’t proud of their education and the opportunities they have to get their hands dirty in their particular field.

Getting Tickets

Emerson sports events are free, just show up.
