The average student doesn’t play varsity sports at Emerson, and chances are his or her friends don’t either. In fact, it’s possible that the average student doesn’t even know that Emerson has sports teams. Though team members and their roommates, friends, and parents may attend Emerson’s varsity sports events, there is very little awareness—and even less support—on campus. Emerson competes against Suffolk University, Southern Vermont College, Emmanuel College, and Johnson & Wales University, among other schools in the Greater Northeastern Athletic Conference and Eastern College Athletic Conference. As for playing sports non-competitively, Emerson doesn’t have many options. Your best bet would be to try to organize a group to meet in the Common and play Frisbee. Another option is to participate in activities scheduled by the fitness center, such as aerobics, yoga, personal fitness, or weight training.

There are very few intramural options available. The school is attempting to add more, and Emerson's new gymnasium and athletic facility may help, but knowing the typical Emerson student, the interest for intramural teams isn’t likely to grow.
