College Prowler Take
The average student doesn’t play varsity sports at Emerson, and chances are his or her friends don’t either. In fact, it’s possible that the average student doesn’t even know that Emerson has sports teams. Though team members and their roommates, friends, and parents may attend Emerson’s varsity sports events, there is very little awareness—and even less support—on campus. Emerson competes against Suffolk University, Southern Vermont College, Emmanuel College, and Johnson & Wales University, among other schools in the Greater Northeastern Athletic Conference and Eastern College Athletic Conference. As for playing sports non-competitively, Emerson doesn’t have many options. Your best bet would be to try to organize a group to meet in the Common and play Frisbee. Another option is to participate in activities scheduled by the fitness center, such as aerobics, yoga, personal fitness, or weight training. There are very few intramural options available. The school is attempting to add more, and Emerson's new gymnasium and athletic facility may help, but knowing the typical Emerson student, the interest for intramural teams isn’t likely to grow.

Emerson has everything from hockey to Quidditch. School spirit is relatively low as far as sports go, however.

The varsity sports teams are actually pretty good, although a lot of students don't follow them. They aren't really a priority for most people here. Intramural sports are few and far between.

I think I’m actually one of the few people at Emerson who wishes we had some intramural sports clubs going on. The only real sporting experience I’ve had here is an attempt to create a kickball game freshman year in the dorms. |

Gyms and Facilities
- Emerson College Fitness Center - This is the College's only gym. If you’re an Emerson student, membership is free, but towel service and locker reservations are extra. The gym is managed by Fitcorp, a corporate fitness company. Basically, this means that all the staff members are degreed in exercise physiology and know what they’re doing. The Fitness Center also offers sports conditioning programs, wellness and healthy lifestyle programs, nutrition seminars, and a bunch of classes, such as power yoga, abdominal workout, stability ball, and strength training.
Athletic Fields
The soccer and lacrosse teams play at the Field at Rotch Playground, the tennis teams play at Pine Manor College in Chestnut Hill and the golf team plays at Franklin Park Golf Course in Dorchester. The Piano Row Gymnasium is home to the basketball and volleyball courts.
Getting Tickets
Emerson sports events are free, just show up.
Most Popular Sports
Although Emerson has been known more for its extensive attention to the liberal arts rather than athletics, the building of the gymnasium at 150 Boylston St. has slowly started to bolster interest in sports. Basketball is quickly drawing large crowds, due in part to the excellence of the men’s and women’s teams and the visual flair of the dance team.
