Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

The dorms at Emerson quickly breed loyalty in students. The College’s newest residence halls have quickly gained popularity among students. Piano Row is limited to four- or six-person suites and is home to the new gymnasium, various meeting rooms for student organizations, a dining and eating area, and administrative offices.

Freshmen aren’t required to live on campus, and they aren’t always guaranteed housing. Those who send their housing deposit in by May 1 will almost always be assigned a bed, though the school occasionally has to put a couple dozen freshmen in the local DoubleTree Hotel. Housing is virtually impossible to get for transfer students and becomes increasingly difficult each year after your first. Most Emerson students are the kind of people who look forward to moving off campus sophomore year anyway, and you should. Overall, residence life is good while it lasts, but few tears are shed when moving out.

Beautiful Dorms, Not Enough Space

The residence halls are all just gorgeous; there's beautiful architecture and almost all have been recently renovated. However, there are only four of them. Many students every year experience receiving an email where they find out they have been booted off campus due to insufficient room in housing, and they must now be forced to find an apartment on their own in the very pricey Boston area.

Dorm Life

Paramount is the newest dorm building and because of that it's pretty nice. There's a cafe downstairs that has a pretty legit selection of fries. But Paramount is a couple streets away from the rest of campus. We are all spoiled in that 99% of campus is clumped together on one block. Little Building is the least nice, but you have the dining hall, a convenience store (the "C-store"), and the gym right in the building. P-row is nice and has a cafe that's open until 2am. But I always envied Colonial residents because it seems to have the feel of real apartments. There are suites in all the buildings though, and what I like most is that each suite gets its own bathroom. I think there are some rooms in LB that have to use a floor bathroom though. Overall, dorm life is pretty good!
