College Prowler Take

The dorms at Emerson quickly breed loyalty in students. The College’s newest residence halls have quickly gained popularity among students. Piano Row is limited to four- or six-person suites and is home to the new gymnasium, various meeting rooms for student organizations, a dining and eating area, and administrative offices.

Freshmen aren’t required to live on campus, and they aren’t always guaranteed housing. Those who send their housing deposit in by May 1 will almost always be assigned a bed, though the school occasionally has to put a couple dozen freshmen
in the local DoubleTree Hotel. Housing is virtually impossible to get for transfer students and becomes increasingly difficult each year after your first. Most Emerson students are the kind of people who look forward to moving off campus sophomore
year anyway, and you should. Overall, residence life is good while it lasts, but few tears are shed when moving out.

The dorms are great. I've only ever lived in Piano Row, so I can't really say from experience which one is better, but Piano Row is newer and all the rooms are suites, which I like.

The P. Row (Piano Row) dorms are...

The P. Row (Piano Row) dorms are obviously ten times better than the L.B. (Little Building) dorms because P. Row has suites. L.B. has them too but only a few, while P. Row is only suites that include a kitchenette, a bathroom, a shower, and a common room. They are good because you still get to know your floormates, but at the end of the day, you and your five roommates get your own privacy.

It’s much easier to live in the Little Building, since everything’s right there.

The Little Building is nice—if...

The Little Building is nice—if you’ve always wanted to live in a completely self-contained environment right out of some bleak sci-fi flick set sometime in the near future, where your entire life is lived vertically, as you occasionally venture down in one of the starkly lit elevators to the cafeteria or convenience store for sustenance, then back up to your room, which looks exactly like every other one on the floor. The windows don’t open more than six inches, and artificial air is circulated by some unseen, omnipresent power structure that you have no control over. For all we know, secret messages such as ‘a tuition increase of a $1,000 or so each year is nothing to fear; I will return in the fall’ are broadcast at a barely audible frequency while you slumber through the night.
