Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Emerson students will probably tell you that everyone on campus is pretty attractive, which is likely because whoever you ask looks a lot like everyone else. Emerson’s population likes to look good, although “good” is a subjective term. There are some really well-dressed kids who look good by anyone’s standards, and some interesting styles that are attractive in their own unique way. On the whole, Emerson isn’t a campus of slobs who roll out of bed and trudge to class, but this is probably because most students don’t live on campus. Don’t cringe at the thought that everyone is dressing to impress, though. Emerson students just look good naturally. Many students emphasize the sexual preference of the guys on campus, claiming that a lot of them are gay. What this really means is that there might be more homosexual students at Emerson, but, what’s for sure, is that everyone is welcome and accepted, which means students have a lot of pride in their lifestyle.

A lot of students who visit Emerson are intrigued by the appearance of the student body. Some describe the general look as “art school-esque,” and find comfort in the fact that they may seem to fit in here. But please don’t make a decision based on looks. Emerson students have more depth than that, and so should you.

The Nerds Shall Inherit the Voice!

Most people here were somehow ostracized in high school, making them delightfully slow to judge and accepting--albeit a bit socially stunted. There's a lot of ex-emo kids here, those who still admit a things for My Chemical Romance or The Nightmare Before Christmas. A lot of people feel a sense of belonging they never felt in high school.

When it comes to dating, there's really no clear fortune. Most attractive straight men have girlfriends back home or at another Boston school. Most single, attractive guys are gay. What can you do? Make friends :)

Depends What You're Looking for!

Emerson has a reputation of being filled with nothing but "hipster" and "scene" kids.. and in a sense the reputation can be true. However, Emerson is a lot of diverse than people give it credit for. If you're into sports, then you can find your crew to hangout with. If you like the hipster crowd, then sure there's an abundance to choose from. As a straight male, I was plenty satisfied by the selection of beautiful girls. There's something for everyone, especially if you're a gay male.

What kinds of relationships have you had since coming to school?

How would you rate the social scene on campus?

Facts

Social Scene

There is no social hierarchy on campus. There are groups that can be generalized based on style of dress or major, but you'll find that those generalizations don't hold up very long. Emerson students are very social and don't keep to a small group of friends.

Hookups or Relationships?

There are a fair amount of people in relationships; a large amount of those are long distance, too. Of course, there are plenty of students who are looking for non-committal nights on the town, too.

Best Places to Meet Guys/Girls

Unlike other big universities in Boston, Emerson doesn’t provide the best opportunities to meet your next potential boyfriend or girlfriend. There are plenty of students who come to Emerson already attached and committed to long-distance relationships. Due to the College's tight-knit population and its reputation as a haven for students with alternative lifestyles, many of the female students will find that many of the the guys are gay. Your best bet is to meet someone from one of the neighboring colleges by attending an off-campus party.

Dress Code

Emerson does not dress like your high school (most likely). Here, the students look like the kids who dressed weird at your high school. Yes, there are plenty of well-dressed students. Yes, there are some preppy kids. But please expect more tight pants, Clash T-shirts, studded belts, mohawks, dyed hair, and leather than you are used to.
