College Prowler Take

Taking the time to go off campus to eat is well worth the trip and money. Unfortunately, there aren’t many restaurants within sprinting distance of Emerson, which means many students don’t take the time to dine between classes. When there is a long break between classes or students have the time to travel, there are tons of great restaurants to try. Grasshopper and Buddha’s Delight are rival favorites for Emerson’s vegan students. Both restaurants offer Asian food that matches any “real meat” counterpart. Students also frequent restaurants in the North End for great pasta and Italian. Emerson is just a few blocks from Chinatown, which has plenty of cheap eats. As for late-night dining, the options are sparse. The South Street Diner is open 24 hours, as is Bova’s Bakery in the North End, but both can get pretty crowded in the early morning hours.

But since the meal plan is pretty generous, and the food is more than tolerable, it’s not always worth it for students to leave campus to feast. Pricing also becomes a concern for many students. School is expensive, and city eating can definitely add to an expense account quickly. The bottom line is that you can find any kind of food you want in Boston; hopefully, you have the time and the resources.

Restaurants are something that...

Restaurants are something that this part of Boston has a real handle on. CityPlace, which is directly between the two dorms, has a few fast food places like Sbarro and Starbucks, as well as a California Pizza Kitchen and P.F. Chang's. Newbury Street, Tremont, and Beacon Hill are also just minutes away, and they offer a very diverse selection. For breakfast, Finagle A Bagel is a must, and if your friends are visiting, the Cheers bar and restaurant is only minutes away.

Boston and the surrounding area...

Boston and the surrounding area has every cuisine a college student craves—some places are pricey, some are cheap. Emerson is right next to Chinatown where there is lots of cheap and delicious Chinese food. Right on campus there is Boloco, New York Pizza, which is open really late and really cheap and often flooded by Emerson students at 2 a.m., and lots of good pubs and chain restaurants.

Walk for Variety

B

There are some good dining options near campus. City Place is less than a block away and has a few restaurants (including a California Pizza Kitchen) and a food court. If you want variety, you'll have to travel a little farther off-campus. The North and the South End are both within ten or fifteen minutes walking time from campus and have a wide assortment of options. Most places are not open past midnight. Starbucks and Dunkin' Doughnuts are everywhere to alleviate your coffee cravings.

My favorite places to eat are Grasshopper and the Italian restaurants in the North End. But while I’m at school, the only place I have time to patronize is the Dunkin’ Donuts.
