Pathetic

Our new gym facility is beautiful, but our teams are an embarrassment. Furthermore, you can only use the brand new gym facilities if you're on an athletic team, otherwise you have to work out in a different gym which is pretty crappy.

Ask Around for Parties

There are clubs really close by (mainly Rise and Machine). Those that I mentioned are 18+, and you can easily find more that are 18+. Alcohol is easy to come by (fake ID's are easily accepted in the China Town area). Transportation is relatively easy, the T closes at 12:30 but the school has a program where if you don't have money for a cab you can take one and then give the cab a slip which works as a check from the college and then pay the college back. Marijuana is easy to come by as well.

I transferred to Emerson and I wish I came sooner! The classes are great, we have access to great equipment and technology, and the school really makes you feel welcome. I always find people in the offices really helpful and the teachers to be really knowledgeable. We have a lot of artistic freedom and it's a great school overall.

Adventure Time!

Emerson is located in downtown Boston, so there's always something to do. The reason for the B+ grade is because the trains close around midnight or 1am, so it's pretty hard to travel in the wee hours of the morning unless you feel like walking/taking a cab. However, there are a ton of places to eat, bars, diners, a few clubs, museums (the MFA is open until 10pm!), sports venues, and places to shop. Never worried about being bored. Even if you're just hanging around the Commons or the Public Gardens, it's still fun if you bring some friends along. I'd say, though, skip the clubs and find some house parties. They're always way more fun!

My Love Affair With Emerson College

There are so many wonderful things I could say about Emerson. The professors are fantastic, the classes (well, most of them) are very interesting, and the campus is in downtown Boston! Emerson also helped me out quite a bit with financial aid and made college affordable for me. The dorms are all pretty nice and the dining halls/cafes are better than other school cafeterias I've been in. Overall, I am madly in love with Emerson College and if you're looking for a career in the arts, this is your school!

Diversity

Emerson welcomes everyone from all different backgrounds but should do more to attract diversity. I feel loved and accepted but I think I need to advertise my school more to get the diversity I want to see.

The Creative People!

Emerson is a school strictly for communication and the arts so the students that attend are the artsy/creative/theater types. However, they are also intelligent. There are a lot of gay students as well.

Emerson is great because (although its small and not widely known to the general public) it has a great reputation in the fields it teaches. Any employer who knows their stuff in journalism, film, theater, etc. will know Emerson and trust it. Because of this, Emerson students get AWESOME internships (ex. NBC).

Parties mostly happen at other, larger schools like Boston U. However, there is plenty to do at Emerson - like our theater, which is a beautiful, antique/renovated place that shows our student production. There's also plenty to do around the city of course (ex. museums, cultural attractions).

I Haven't Heard of Any Problems.

I have never heard of any serious problems occurring in Boston. It's a college city so everyone is really busy and minding their own business. There are security guards at each building just in case and they do advise you not to walk around the park at night.

Acting BFA

I'm a student at Emerson College majoring in Acting. One thing that I love about the acting faculty is that they all are currently working in the field and so, everything they are teaching in class they are actively doing. All of my teachers have been very supportive and always willing to help each student understand his or her relationship to the techniques we're learning. Emerson has wonderful studio spaces that students can check out for individual use or for rehearsals. Everyone in the Performing Arts department is always busy with some sort of show. Emerson's Theatre program is definitely for the actor who believes in learning by doing.

Academic Courseload at Emerson College

Academics at Emerson are sometimes challenging, but in a good way. Class size is always small which makes learning easier. Also small class size makes professors more readily available to build strong relationships with students. One of the main reasons that I decided to come to Emerson was because of tall the major intense course work. Courses in the field of Broadcast Journalism are in depth and hands on, which is great.

Where the Professors Really Make a Difference

This school deserves a better student body. A lot of the students who come through the halls are shallow and only interested in their future. It's too bad, because the school itself is fantastic, with incredible professors, available equipment, and top-notch facilities. It's well regarded in the area for a reason.

I Hope You Like Public Transit

Fun after dark while on campus means catching a fairly good comedy show and then back to the suite for illicit alcohol (for everyone - it's a "dry" campus) and DBZ. If you want to dance, there are a few clubs close enough, like The Middle East. However, any nightlife suffers by the ridiculously early closing of the T. Parties only get started at 12:30, man!

This Is a Colorful Place.

At Emerson, East and West coast collide. That means you'll make friends you never would have otherwise met, and probably pick up some of their fashion sense, too. Bonus - if you're an East Coaster like me, maybe your new Cali friends will invite you to the beach for Spring break!

Emerson People Are the Best

Emerson kids are just amazing because they are talented, creative, and very friendly. I think that's what sets Emerson apart from rest of the schools in Boston. You meet the coolest people here who are really passionate. I absolutely love Emerson. The professors here are also amazing because they have a lot of expertise in the industry and are teaching from their experiences.

Boston Is Best

Boston has a lot of colleges for a reason - its an amazing college city! Most of the people you will see are either students, working class professionals, or the older townies. Its a wonderful city with so much to do.

No Single, Straight Males

There is a saying at Emerson: "Assume he's gay, and if you find out he's not, be pleasantly surprised"! All the straight males (for the most part) are taken or not interested/interesting...

Quidditch Is Big?

While my girlfriend plays softball and thus is really into the athletics here/knows the other teams and players...very few people outside of the athletes care/support athletics. We have a nice gym though. I think it would be better to have some kind of incentive system to get to games and support the teams, cause right now it's mostly just family or close friends. The biggest/most talked about sport isn't even real. We have a Quidditch team that competes in Middlebury for the world cup and ranked 2nd this year and I know a lot of people who play it as an intramural sport. Otherwise, I can barely see anyone going out to the Common to organize an game of baseball, basketball, and least of all football...we don't have a football team for a reason...there's no interest as much as I would like there to be (I'm originally from Gainesville, FL home of the Gators)

Safe, State-Of-The-Art and Smack in the Middle of Boston

All of the Emerson facilities are within a 2-3 block area on the southeast corner of Boston Common. The buildings are either new, like the gorgeous Paramount Theater Center, or have been renovated and kept in good shape throughout the years. All classrooms are technologically advanced and have computer-linked projectors. The library is located in one of the main classroom buildings, and the gyms and fitness centers are all located inside dorm buildings. Everything is right next to each other, which is extremely convenient since we are a city campus, and everything is right on the beautiful Boston Common and Garden. Each building has a security system, and an Emerson I.D. is needed so students are entirely safe.

People Who Are Chill

The people at Emerson are really artsy for the most part, but very easy to get along with. There is a very active homosexual community, but if you happen to be a straight woman that shouldn't be a concern since the university does happen to be in the middle of Boston. People's dress is relaxed yet fashionable, and the people are attractive, though again, in an "artsy" way. Not a lot of bar hopping or anything like that, but people do have smaller parties.

There If You Want It, but Not a Big Deal If You Don't

A lot of people at Emerson smoke weed and drink, and of course, since it's an art school, there are a handful who go further than that. However, if you decide to live a drug and alcohol free life, there are definitely people for you. No one ever makes you feel like you have to do it to fit in. However, if you're going to drink/do drugs on campus, WATCH OUT. The punishment for getting caught is not a walk in the park. Just be careful.

Not Bad for College Food

Cafeteria food is OK, but the dining options in Boston are almost endless. Would recommend not buying the full meal plan if you do not need a lot to eat.
