College Prowler Take
Public transportation is part of daily life for most students. Between the buses, subways, and commuter rails, it’s easy to get anywhere you want to go in or near the city. The subway, or T, is pretty cheap, and it can take you into Cambridge, Brookline, Quincy, Somerville, and other communities in the area. Buses are cheaper than the T but take a little more concentration to figure out how to get where you want to go. Emerson offers a slightly discounted monthly T pass that you can sign up for, and if you’re lucky, your parents won’t notice that they’re paying for it. Subway trains and buses stop running between midnight and 1 a.m. during the week, but Night Owl buses run until 2 a.m. on the weekends, which is when the bars and clubs close anyway. Most students agree that the T is really easy to navigate, and it services any area that you’d want to visit. Subway service is very reliable, although as with anything, there are delays that always seem to happen on the one day you have to be somewhere on time. Generally though, Boston’s public transportation is convenient and always cheaper than a taxi. It takes some getting used to, but once you know the system, it really is incredibly efficient.

The T can be a nightmare. If you take the Green Line any time between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m., be prepared to be crammed into a claustrophobia-inducing car that lurches and squeals all the way home. |
