Always a Party – At Emory every Thursday through Saturday night there are at least two big name parties going on. Usually there's something big at an on-campus frat house(every frat house has something going on every weekend night though), something better going on at an off-campus frat party, and occasionally a club/rave/concert/bar event that everyone heads to. I haven't heard many issues from kids under 21 here finding a way to have fun, most people who want fakes have them, and liquor is easily accessible. In fact, many upperclassmen here consider freshman year at Emory the best year for partying. If concern about Emory not being fun is keeping you from considering coming, trust me that just as much fun is had here compared to any other big party schools.

The school has a very large percentage of people from New England (many of which are jewish) and people from Asia (mostly South Korean). For some this might seem diverse but there is little other cultural exposure outside of that.

Never get tagged in Facebook photos – This past week, the emory disciplinary council did something that i cannot believe. 4 people were put on probation for drawing on dorm decorations, while another received probation for NOT leaving the scene, all because one sa was upset that they stole her precious harry potter drawing. The bottom line, is if you come to emory prepare to put up with a lot of bull s*** about stupid stuff. I will be honest when i say that i wish i never came here. Unless you totally follow every rule in the code of ethics, don't come here. Emory might be a great academic school, but it is not worth putting up with all the bureaucratic bs that fill this school.

At emory it is virtually impossible to get a bad education. all of the majors are good. If you are going pre-med then your life is going to be miserable during the middle and end of the semester. Same goes to people who are doing a lot of science classes. But overall emory is a stellar academic school, without much of the cutthroat nature of other top 20 schools.

My one thing is that get off campus as much as possible, since the university heavily regulates greek life and is not tolerant to drugs or alcohol. However, atlanta is a great city if u can get out, so my one piece of advice is to get an id asap.

When coming to emory, one should know that it is 30 percent asian and is 30 percent jewish, which is both a good thing and a bad thing.

Lots of Cheap Options, Lots of Unique Food. There are a lot of cheap fast food options near campus if you're looking for some late night grub, yet Atlanta also has a lot of really great one-of-a-kind establishments like Vortex, Bones, Fox Brothers BBQ... the list goes on.

Health & Safety:
Very Safe. Emory's in a very safe area of Atlanta. White collar crime (i.e. theft) is probably the biggest issue, especially during finals. But if you're smart about your personal belongings, theft isn't an issue. Physical safety is almost a non-issue on Emory's campus.

Lots of Rules, Lax Enforcement – Emory administrators love to create rules, but in reality, many of these rules don't get enforced or don't have a big impact on students. When it comes to drinking and drug use, you won't get caught unless you make an ass of yourself. If you do get caught, the punishments are not too severe... usually just a slap on the wrist. The exception to this is the honor code which students take very seriously, but it's the students who enforce the honor code, not the school administration.

Not What I Expected – Emory hasn't been advertised as being very fun or spirited. Yet, it has so much of both. Academically , there is a ton of work. But if you handle your time wisely, as I am proud to have done, you have just the same amount of time for partying. and a lot of it.

At Emory, you mostly walk to get around. However, after a late night frat party you can call Emory Escort, a school sponsored bus that will take you anywhere on campus. It is meant to protect students, but most of us abuse it. x100.

No One Cares – At Emory, the only ones who care at all are those in greek life. the rest of the campus either looks down of how them or just uses them for their parties.

I do not party, but there are always parties going on.

Give It a Chance – People often go in expecting food to be so bad they do not even give it a chance. Emory's cafeteria, the DUC has its bad days but overall the food is pretty good and gives you a lot of healthier choices and variety than you would get eating at places like Cox everyday, which serves a lot of fast food.

Health & Safety:
Safe and Secure – Emory has one the the best hospitals in the world and a very accessible student health center. The campus is also well lit, has many blue lights from which you can call the police in case of emergency, and they even offer a free shuttle service if you get stuck off campus late at night and cannot get back. If any incident happens on campus involving crime, they send out and almost immediate email or text message.

Tough Courses Ahead – There are some very easy classes here, but there are also man hard and demanding classes, especially at the Oxford campus where teachers can given more assignments due to much smaller classes. Either way you go, you will learn a lot.

Not Bad – Emory is ok. The education is good and at the Oxford campus I got A LOT of research experience in science. Main campus is a bit more socially distant but there are a wider variety of classes and opportunities.

To Man Macs – Emory is turning into a hipster; they have just about gotten rid of all the PC's and replaced them with macs even though a lot of students oppose the move. On the plus side, Cox Computing center is one of the coolest places I have seen on any campus.

Many Shuttles – Emory is near many MARTA stations, which id nice. They also have regular shuttle service on campus and shuttles tot eh malls and other shoping centers during the week. M only complaint would be that shuttles on campus are too infrequent on the weekends, ridiculously crowded in the late afternoon, and are prone to breakdowns.
Recent Alumnus 2011-08-26T00:06:19Z
Plenty of Places – There are a lot of places off-campus to live and they are close to a variety of shopping places. If you need to drive to campus however, it will be expensive because Emory is trying to discourage the usage of cars.

Very Pre-Med Oriented – Emory is a good school, but as a science major it can be a bit annoying that the science classes are often oriented towards pre-med student interests.

Very Easy. Yet Demanding – Entering into my major did not present any major challenges for me. Except for the rigorous application process and making sure I maintained my grades, I just declared my major and that was that. I was even invited to come to school a week before the rest of the students to participate in a week-long seminar to familiarize myself with the different options within my major.

Top Research University – Emory is considered one of the top 20 universities for research. It collaborates with important institutions such as CDC, and the American Cancer Society for conducting research. The professors are very knowledgeable and academics are demanding. What I think is the best trait of Emory is that it is focused on providing opportunities to outstanding students with limited resources. The school will go beyond what any school will do to ensure that students live the best experience. It's what they call "Living the Emory Experience".

Perfect Southern Life – Location, location, location. Emory University is situated in the center of a middle-class residential area with a small town feel. However, down-town Atlanta is just a couple of miles away. Atlanta is full of options for entertainment such as the Aquarium, CNN headquarters, The World of Coca-Cola, and many historical sites.
Emory University houses one of the most beautiful art collections I have seen. Emory is located near the CDC, which provides great research opportunities for students. What I appreciate the most around my school is the free transportation services. Emory University and Atlanta are the best choices for me.

There are SI, Supplemental Instructors which really help in science or history related course. They pretty much spark note the professor lectures and downgrade them to help students understand at a more understandable level I would say.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
