Comparable Schools' Local Atmosphere Grades:
College Prowler Take
Atlanta has tons of things to do for fun. Having a professional team in all four major sports means that you can enjoy pro sports year round. Atlanta has several great bohemian areas, like East Atlanta and Little Five Points, full of cool shops, restaurants, and exciting nightlife. Areas like Virginia Highlands, Buckhead, and Midtown also offer great nightlife and restaurants. The Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Foundation is a beautiful historic site that has great spiritual and political meaning to many residents of Atlanta. Athens, where the University of Georgia is located, is just one hour away, and Savannah, a beautiful and fun place to visit, is about two hours away. The atmosphere in the immediately surrounding town provides its own interesting dynamics. Emory is situated in North East Atlanta, about a ten-minute drive from Buckhead (a dining and entertainment district) and a fifteen-minute drive from Midtown and Downtown. The closest neighborhood is affectionately called Emory Village, and it features restaurants varying from pizza and bar food to Chinese and Middle Eastern food. There are also coffee establishments, an alternatively stocked bookstore, a great photo shop, and a women’s clothing store. Emory Village is the only thing about Emory’s local atmosphere that isn’t exciting. The poor quality of transportation and Emory’s isolation sometimes restricts students’ social life, but overall, it’s hard to beat such a young and vibrant city to spend four years in.

Atlanta has a huge population of African Americans and some really great culture. The music scene is cool, even though the radio sucks, and there is always a concert to go to. |

Emory is in Atlanta, but this is...
Emory is in Atlanta, but this is no college town. In fact, it is nearly the opposite of a college town. You never really feel like you are going to college; it feels more like a country club outside of a major city. |

Emory is isolated from the rest of...
Emory is isolated from the rest of Atlanta, but this is a good thing in some respects. The school is a short driving distance from everything in the city, but the key word is driving. The public transportation is not that great unless you are going to the airport, and Atlanta is not a very biker-friendly city. Traffic is horrible once you do have a car here. |

It’s no New York, but ATL is still a fun city. It is a bit too spread-out, however, and there are only a couple of spots where you can walk from place to place, and even those areas are too spread out to connect. Atlanta is the exact definition of urban sprawl. If you don’t know what that means, look it up. |

Atlanta is one of the most fun cities I have ever been to, and definitely one of the best in the Southeast. There are lots of good bars, the weather is nice, there are great places to shop, and the restaurants are amazing. ATL is very diverse, and there are some great and very distinct ethnic areas around town. |
