Escaping the Emory Bubble
Emory University students, underclassmen especially, live and breathe within the so-called Emory Bubble when it comes to dining. However, Atlanta is a vibrant city in which widely varying cultural cuisines may be represented on the same street. Though it's easier to explore the city as an upper classman when one is more likely to have easy access to private vehicles, freshmen and sophomores tend to be on the shorter side of the stick. Marta (Atlanta's transportation system) can be difficult to navigate and, though close (about a 15 minute drive), Atlanta does not step on Emory's toes. Hence, many underclassmen live in what is termed the "Emory bubble". Once the bubble has been escaped, however, one becomes aware of Atlanta's beautiful array of flavors. Thai restaurants are divine in taste, low in cost, and highly flocked to. Latin eateries, such as Papi's, attract students for its hot, Cuban sandwiches and rice and beans plates. Fine dining options are also available for students with heavier wallets, such as Atlanta Grill, located inside of the Ritz-Carlton. Another popular spot is Atlantic Station, a sprawling shopping complex that dominates a large portion of the region near Centennial Park. Regal's movie theater popcorn, Coldstone's cake batter ice cream and California Pizza's hawaiian pizza can be bought at this location, among many others. Finally, an Emory student can never go wrong with Atlanta dining landmarks, such as the Varsity, known for it's juicy burgers and fries (it was even featured in a Travel Channel special about this great city!), Underground Atlanta, and Little Five Points. Atlantan cuisine bursts with flavor, but what does it take for an Emory student to access all of this? One must escape the Emory bubble!
