Freshmen are not allowed to obtain a parking permit or have a car on campus. Upperclassmen may have cars and purchase tags for specific lots on campus. Students living on Clairmont Campus receive free parking tags for the deck there.
College Prowler Take
There are numerous (probably too many) parking decks on campus. Police and the Parking Department are very hard on parking tickets and are also quick to tow, so one must always have a parking tag (roughly $330), and not park illegally, lest they want to take a 30-minute car ride to pay S&W Towing. If you obey the rules, parking is easy here. There are various types of parking passes, each one allowing parking at one specific deck or area. Paid parking is also usually available during the day, though not always in a convenient location. Freshmen are not allowed to have a car, although no one really checks to see if they do. If you want one as a freshman, and you also want to park it on campus, you will need an upperclassman without a car to purchase you a pass. This process is usually not that hard, but it can be time-consuming finding someone. Once you do have a car on campus, be very careful about where you park, and don’t chance it unless you feel you have to. Emory can be very unfair about ticketing and towing. Supposedly, if you make friends with the women who work in the parking office, you can get some of your tickets erased, but nothing comes for free.

Freshmen can't have cars at Emory,...
Freshmen can't have cars at Emory, but it's pretty useless as everything you need as a freshman is on campus. If you really have the urge to go off campus, you can use an Emory shuttle to get to the mall, grocery store, or weekend hangout spots. If not, you can always ask an upperclassman friend, or grab a Zipcar, which is a car-sharing program that gives a discounted rate for all Emory students. If you must bring a car, parking on campus is incredibly expensive at more than $600/year, and you are only allowed to park in the parking garage to which you are assigned at the beginning of the year.

Freshman cannot have a car, and it sucks to have a car any other year. Driving in Atlanta is a nightmare. Public transportation is much less of a hassle than having a car on campus.

As a freshman you are not allowed...
As a freshman you are not allowed to park, but you can easily get around this. The only problem once you get a pass is finding a good spot. You have to always be on the watch for the ticket cars if you don’t have a pass, and if you park in the wrong spot, your car might get towed, and the towing place is forty minutes away. |

During the middle of the day parking can be very hard to find, even with the proper tags and whatnot. This can get real annoying real fast. |

I never had a car but I have...
I never had a car but I have accidentally gotten my friend’s car ticketed and towed numerous times. Once I left a car in an illegal spot for less than fifteen minutes, and when I came out it was in the process of being towed. I had to pay the driver $50 to give me the car back. |
