Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Atlanta’s weather is beautiful. The fall is warm with lots of breezes, where a T-shirt, jeans and sandals are perfect, and you won’t ever be cold in shorts. The winter can get cold, but it doesn’t really ever snow (when it does, the native Atlantans freak out). You will need some sweaters and a jacket for late November through February. Spring is amazing from March on, but it does rain a lot in April, May, and June, so an umbrella is key. The springtime in Atlanta is truly beautiful. Summers are burning hot, especially July and August. Don’t bring a car down here without air conditioning, as the humidity makes for some stale afternoons in the summer.

Overall, Atlanta’s weather is a blessing to the students of Emory. For such high average temperatures, Atlanta does manage to have four full and notable seasons. Emory students love the springtime, and people take advantage of the nice weather by sunbathing and hanging out all over campus. Allergies can be a problem for some, especially people used to cold climates. When it rains, it can rain hard and sometimes for days on end, but it’s worth it for the tremendous day-to-day weather students enjoy in Atlanta.

Four Seasons

While attending Emory, I have gotten to experience what it is like having four seasons in the year. Coming from Texas, this was quite a new experience for me. The summers are relatively pleasant compared to home, although many Northeasterners find the heat and "humidity" intolerable (for those who live on the Gulf Coast, the weather is very bearable). On the flip side, I find the winters quite cold and windy.

Normal Georgia Weather

Normal GA weather, but we're above the gnat line so it's not too buggy. Classes don't get canceled too often.

Weather Is Beautiful, Occasional Rain

Advice: Buy a pair of rainboots. Georgian weather is sunny and gorgeous about 70 percent of the time (which makes the campus even prettier!), but it rains more than I had been prepared for. Nothing too bad, no flooding or anything, but it is useful to have a pair of rainboots and an umbrella in case the weather decides to turn around.
