Fairleigh Dickinson’s Florham campus sits right in the town of Madison, along with two other colleges. With three colleges in close proximity, it is a shame that Madison does not cater to the college crowd whatsoever. If students wish to go out at night, then many of them go farther away from campus into Morristown, where there are a few local bars. Madison businesses use the colleges for revenue, but the town gives nothing back, except to the other residents of the town. Many students would rather spend time on campus than in the town—not because the campus offers many things to do, but because the town offers even less for college students.
Madison is a very safe town, and off-campus safety is never a concern. Drew University is roughly one and a half miles away, and the College of Saint Elizabeth, an all-female school, is less than a mile away; both schools are within walking distance to each other. The only attractions that are off campus are in the surrounding towns and include bowling, movie theaters, and other restaurants. Many students tend to leave campus on the weekends, leaving those without cars stuck on campus without much to do.
