College Prowler Take
The academic programs at FIT are unique. The college focuses on a hands-on education for its students; FIT considers them to be “pre-professionals.” The courses taught here offer real-life assignments. The projects you will work on are not just out of a textbook; they are real situations; the outcomes come to life once the project is complete. With career preparation in mind, FIT offers internship and mentoring programs in many of its majors. Many high-profile companies such as MTV, Tommy Hilfiger, Vogue, and Madison Square Garden provide internships to FIT students, and many of them develop into jobs. FIT also provides a variety of study abroad and international internship programs. This enables students to experience the global marketplace.
The student-to-faculty ratio is manageable, and most students say that their teachers are great. However, since professors are usually working in their respective fields, they don’t always have as much time to spend with students. In the end, the best way to contact your teacher is through e-mail. This way of communicating doesn’t seem to bother students, though, since they are generally more independent than an average college student.
