Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

FIT thrives in having an academic curriculum that reflects what is happening every day in corporate offices, showrooms, and studios all over the world. What is unique about the academics at FIT is that from day one, you are learning about your chosen field. The courses offer "real life" assignments, and the projects are not out of a textbook. What you do in the classroom will be what you do in the future. Students have the option of entering the Jay and Patty Baker School of Business and Technology or the School of Art and Design. With more than 30 undergraduate majors, ranging from all different areas within the fashion industry and beyond, you're sure to find a major that best suits you and your interests.

The faculty at FIT delivers information straight from the industry, as all instructors are nationally and internationally recognized for their contribution to the industry. The professors are dedicated to enriching the education experience of the students. Although the professors are heavily knowledged individuals, their working lives give them little to no time to engage with students outside of the classroom.

Terrific Resources and Professors

This is already my second year as a student at this university and I honestly have to state that I am extremely pleased with the education that I am receiving. Last semester I had some Professors, with whom I have networked with and as a result I received an internship at a wonderful company for the Spring semester! At times, the workload can be extremely overwhelming since many students are taking more than 16 credits per semester with an internship, extracurricular activities, work and trying to maintain at least a 3.0 GPA. However, it will only provide us students for more experience when working in the industry. You just need to work for your grade because many of the Professors are willing to help.

Creativity Meets Buisness

I came to the Fashion Institute of Technology because it is known to be one of the best schools for my concentration of study. The professors are mostly all from jobs directly in the fashion industry. With their experience, they help the students recognize what to expect and give tips about future employment after graduating college. I also love how I can express my creativity at FIT.

FIT-FMM Recap

When I attended FIT from 2003-2006, I majored in Fashion Merchandising Management. The curriculum for merchandising was informative and captivating. The workload was not over-bearing for me even though I took 6-7 classes a semester. One major aspect of my program I enjoyed was the professors were always willing to help the students. After class, you could review material you didn't understand with them. The classes were small so the professor knew each student by name and characteristics of everyone. I also felt comfortable by the professors knowledge of the industry since they have worked in the fashion industry for years.
