College Prowler Take
A majority of students here have no clue about the sports offered at FIT. Athletics are not a priority here. Ask a student if they are going to the basketball game, and they will look at you dumbfounded, maybe even thinking you are talking about the Knicks (who play their home games at Madison Square Garden, only seven blocks from FIT). It also may not help that there are mostly women here, since men tend to be more fanatic about sports.
However, the students that are on teams say they have met great groups of friends and have been taught leadership and sportsmanship skills.

FIT is only really known for their basketball team, and that’s the only sport anyone cares about, unless they are on a team for something else. |

Sports are not big at all; although, there is a girl’s basketball team and a dance team. |

Sports are not really talked about...
Sports are not really talked about at FIT, except by the students who are part of it. The school tries to get people involved in the basketball team, and the dance team has gotten bigger. But FIT is not a sports school. |

FIT is mainly a fashion school—that we even have sport teams at all seems insane. |

I played on the basketball team here and met a lot of great people. Most students at FIT that I meet don’t know about the sports, so I have become used to telling them about them. |

School Spirit
You will see students here wearing clothes with the FIT logo on them, but not many will wear anything that has do with the sports here. There is a FIT spirit week held in November, followed by a Homecoming game and celebration for the basketball teams. Other than that, there are not many more scheduled events to help promote school spirit.
Getting Tickets
Don’t need them. The sporting events at school are never sold out. In truth, the stands are barely ever filled.
Most Popular Sports
The men’s and women’s basketball teams are the most known sports on campus.
Most Overlooked Teams
In 2002, the women’s tennis team placed second nationally in the NJCAA, and in 2003, they placed seventh—and almost no one campus knows about it.
Best Place to Take a Walk
West Side Highway—walk west on 26th Street until you get to the Hudson River, where you’ll find a bike and pedestrian path that will take you all the way to Battery Park if you’re adventurous enough.
Did You Know?
FIT might not have a stellar varsity sports program, but they do offer a wide range of recreational programs that are free to students. Classes range from salsa dance to aerobics to yoga to power muscle-toning to funk dance.
