Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

While most students have their own computers in their dorm room or at home, they generally do not bring them to class, unless it is required. If students decide to bring their own computer, they can take advantage of the campus-wide wireless Internet; however, a lot of students take refuge in the computer lab to kill time in between classes. There are plenty of computers available, both PC and Mac, and most have programs students need to complete their work. FIT works hard to offer its students access to modern and emerging technologies and software, including the latest in graphic design applications and computer-aided design.

If students have an issue with their own personal computer, they can visit IT Media Services. For security purposes, passwords used to log in to the computers are changed about twice a semester. Each student has his or her own username and password.

They have excellent printing prices; 10 cents per B/W page, 90 cents for color.

The computer accessibility at F.I.T is average. Due to the SUNY level of college that F.I.T. charges for, the computers differentiate throughout the different programs for students. There is a variety of Mac and PC computers throughout campus and the internet is easily accessible to students carrying laptops.

Some classrooms have nice computers and others do not. Accessing wireless access takes too long and printing on campus is expensive. We should be able to print for free.

  • The best hours to go to the computer lab are early in the morning or late at night, as it tends to get crowded during the day.
  • The Angel learning system (a system used to manage courses online) is available at FIT, and almost all professors use this to post discussions, classwork, and other material.
