College Prowler Take
Unlike many colleges in Manhattan, FIT’s campus is contained within only two city blocks. There are no grassy areas or parks on campus, but there are trees, benches for students to hang out on, and Central Park is only a subway ride away. The Museum at FIT houses one of the world’s top collections of costumes and textiles. FIT has a variety of other special facilities including a toy design workshop, lighting laboratory, and fragrance studio—all exclusively unique to the FIT campus. Many students agree that the campus needs improvement. The elevators can be slow, the escalators are sometimes out of order, the bathrooms can get messy (especially the women’s room), and some classrooms are outdated. The good thing for future students applying here is that FIT is in the process of remodeling the campus.

Some of the facilities are nicer than others. The computer facilities are really great, while the gym is comparable to the standard high school gymnasium. There isn’t a problem with any of the facilities; just some have updated features, while others lag behind. |

The athletic workout room is very small. The computer lab in the bottom of the C Building is my favorite. All of the facilities are clean and nice. |

I never spent time in the Student Center. The gym is small, and the hours are not very convenient. The equipment is decent, however. |

FIT seems to always be under construction. The school is constantly upgrading its facilities and looking to students for input on how to better the campus. |

The Style Shop, where everything sold is made by FIT students or alumni, and the Hall of Art, where students can have their work displayed, are interesting facilities for students to frequent. |
FactsWhat To Do on Campus
New York City is your playground when you are a student at FIT. But if you do choose to stay on campus, some things to do include hanging out outside between the A and B Buildings or in front of the C Building; grabbing something to eat with friends in the cafeteria; attending a student life activity like movie night, salsa lessons, or learning workshops; joining a student club or organization and attending weekly meetings; hanging out on the 7th floor of the A Building, where there is a game room and all kinds of student activities going on; or taking a free fitness class like yoga, Pilates, or body toning.
