The ratio between girls and guys at FIT can be overwhelming at times. In classes, it is easily recognized that there are more girls than guys, depending on the major. Either way, guy or girl, students should not get discouraged by this. If you're a girl, there are plenty of young, cute men (or women) in New York City that are looking for you, too. If you're a straight guy, there are plenty of girls at FIT from which to choose. If you're a gay man, take advantage of the gay culture within the Chelsea neighborhood that FIT resides.

A dating scene does not really exist at FIT. There are some guys and girls that date, but the majority of dating happens within the gay community. If you are a girl and can find a straight guy to date at FIT, that is a rare commodity, and you will often see awkward glances from your peers. If you come to FIT dating your high school sweetheart, then it's a perfect place to find your gay best friend.

PEOPLE ARE SO ASIAN OR ITALIAN

You’ll find all sorts of stylies general as I said guys are more normal thru the blonds thru the most elegant and stylish, and girls either asian or italian believe it or not they look more eclectic, most likely like a man but all kinds, but most likely open the only thing just should took a little bit of italian so connect more quickly but everyone talks english.

Too Many Girls

FIT is about 85% girls. The girls in the Fashion Merchandising Major are usually very type A. It is a competitive atmosphere. The guys are usually gay and the ones who aren't tend to travel in packs and are hard to approach. FIT is not the place to find a romantic partner, no matter what your sexual orientation is.

Judgemental

It's all gay guys, and girls. Don't expect to come here and find any social life. The girls are mean, the guys are mean, you get judged up and down everywhere you walk.

Social Scene

It can be hard to find time to meet students outside of your major, with the exception of liberal arts classes and those students who live on the same floor in the residence halls. There is a lack of a social scene on campus, with few athletic events. Students establish a group of friends and tend to stick with that group throughout their years at FIT.

Hookups or Relationships?

A lot of girls on campus are in relationships, but not with guys from FIT. Girls: don't expect to meet the love of your life at FIT. Guys: if you're gay, your chances are far higher; if you're straight, FIT is full of hot girls.

Best Places to Meet Guys/Girls

FIT students are heavily involved in their schoolwork and/or working part- or full-time. If students do hit it off at school, it’s generally from meeting in class, the dorms, or during extracurricular activities. The top place to meet people from outside of FIT is at one of the bars or clubs in New York City. A lot of students at FIT are also friends with NYU or Pace University students.

Dress Code

There are no rules when it comes to dress at FIT. You will see hundreds of different styles on a normal day. The key is to know what looks good without trying too hard.

Did You Know? A lot of students find that they do not have time to date, whereas at other schools, college can be where you find your soul mate.
