College Prowler Take

With so many ethnic influences, talented chefs, hotspots, hidden gems, delis, and diners, New York offers something for everyone. But eating in NYC, just like everything else here, can be expensive. The key is to eat right. Buying food off the street is one of the cheapest ways to eat. New York is famous for the food sold by street vendors. Hot dogs, pretzels, roasted peanuts, and burritos—the variety is practically endless—are reasonably priced options for a quick and easy meal. Another way to keep on budget is to stay away from the touristy restaurants around Times Square. These restaurants can be fun, but they will almost certainly be expensive.

Another plus to NYC cuisine is that a lot of restaurants and delis are open late or 24 hours. You can venture outside at midnight and get virtually anything you crave. This is helpful when you need a quick snack for those late-night study sessions or after a crazy night out at a club.
