College Prowler Take
Finding an apartment in any city can be a difficult task, but in New York City, it can be near impossible. Thousands of people move to the city every year, creating a huge demand for living space and driving apartment prices sky high. What New Yorkers call an amazing deal would shock most out-of-towners when it comes to size and price. And with hundreds of apartments for rent each day in an extremely competitive market, it’s become an issue of survival of the fittest.
Most students at FIT cut housing costs by living with one or more roommates; not only is it cost efficient in the way of rent, but splitting the cost of other expenses such as food, cable, Internet, and electric is always a way to save. No matter what area you decide to live in, be prepared for a small living space. What is considered a spacious and luxurious apartment in New York is a considered a closet in other cities.

Commuting to FIT from an off-campus apartment is not hard. The New York City subway and bus system operates in all five boroughs 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and it’s an inexpensive way to get to and from school. The PATH trains to New Jersey and New Jersey Transit also operate 24/7. |
