College Prowler Take
Security is tight at FIT. Students, faculty, and staff must show their ID when entering any of the buildings on campus. It can be a pain, but it makes sense to take these precautions when attending a school that is located in New York City. Also, the block that FIT resides in is cut off from the rest of the city, and the security office at FIT works very closely with the NYPD in keeping the campus safe and secure. You will often see police officers on campus, especially if there is a major event going on near school.
To stay safe in New York City, use common sense and street smarts. Many people think New York City is dangerous, but despite having a population of more than eight million people, New York City consistently ranks in the top 10 safest large cities in the United States. Nevertheless, staying alert becomes a habit while living here.

A lot of students will argue with security because they do not have their ID with them, and they are late to class and want to just walk in the school. Beware, because the security will stop you and hold you until your school enrollment status is verified on their computers. This can be strange to newcomers at first, but remember that you are in New York City, and you don’t want just anyone to walk into the school. |

Out of the many universities I have visited, FIT is one of the strictest, security-wise. We have to show our ID when entering any building on campus, where in other schools, they only require an ID shown in computer labs or the library. |

Security is a pain, but it’s good to be forced to show an ID everywhere; you feel safe. |

Security is tight on campus. No...
Security is tight on campus. No one is allowed in the buildings without a current FIT ID. I personally have never felt unsafe at school, and just about all the colleges in Manhattan operate security in a similar manner. |

FIT is a dry campus, meaning there is no alcohol allowed on campus or at any functions hosted by FIT, whether it be on campus or not.
Eating and drinking are not permitted in classrooms.
Students and faculty are not allowed in any buildings at FIT without showing their school ID first.
