I have not recieved my financial aid award yet, but the process so far has been a little hectic. You have to submit a budget sheet along with your fafsa as well as proof of residency if you are in-state. You may not have substancial proof even if you are a resident. For me, I nanny and do not have w-2 so I could not submit that. I also live with my boyfriend so I do not have rent or utilities in my name. If you are a resident and live with your parents who file dependency then you are a-ok. If not, make sure you have bills and such in your name as well as an NY state ID card.

Financial Aid Difficulties

Basically the only way to get financial aid is if your from the state of New York or if you have major financial issues. FIT likes to say that they give out financial aid but it is only available to a tiny group of students. Scholarships directly from FIT are nearly impossible to receive because few students meet the requirements for the scholarships.

Hard to Get Financial Aid

It seems really hard to get financial aid, only a few students get any from the school, meanwhile a lot of students need help. I feel as though the students who are getting the aid don't actually need help.

Stay on top of checking your email. A lot of scholarships are sent through an email because a professor either nominated you or because you are eligible for a potential scholarship. Most scholarships are awarded in the second, third, and fourth years.
