Public transportation is unrivaled in New York City. In the long run, it can even be cheaper than owning and maintaining your own car. There are 3,700 buses, 714 miles of subways, and 12,000 taxis and limousines. There are also ferries, helicopters, bicycles, and railroad service. And don’t forget the most important form of transportation here—your feet! New York City is a walking city. Most of the city is flat and is perfect for strolling around. Walking is the best way for you to get a real feel for the diverse atmosphere of the city. It’s also the cheapest way to get around, and sometimes, depending on traffic and the distance, the fastest. As a result, the street life in New York is a vital part of the culture. On New York’s sidewalks and streets, you will see people snacking, meeting friends, gossiping, and even taking business meetings via cell phone. If you’re near a park, you may even see professional dog walkers, with 10 or so dogs on leashes. You will see a lot of strange and interesting sights while wandering by foot, and most of them will be pretty amusing. Students Speak Out

There are buses and trains all near school. And if you have the money, you can take a taxi cab since they are available 24/7. |

There are many ways to get to school by public transportation. You can take the 1,9; the A,C,E; the F,V; the N,R; and the 4,5,6 subways and walk only a few blocks. |

Public transportation is incredibly convenient. Within a short walking distance to school, there is access to the entire East Side, the West Side, downtown, Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, Westchester, New Jersey, and all the major airports. |

FIT is located right near one of the best subways (1,9) that gets you around to some of the hotspots of NYC (34th Street, Times Square, Central Park, Wall Street, Canal Street). Other subways are only a few blocks away, and taking a cab is a breeze since they are always around. |
