Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

There are several forms of transportation in New York City, which can potentially be cheaper than owning and maintaining your own car. MTA (Metropolitan Transportation Authority) offers a bus and subway system, and there is also the most obvious form of transportation: taxis. However, the most important form of transportation in New York City is your own two feet! This is a walking city, with most of New York being flat and perfect for strolling around. It can be the cheapest and sometimes fastest form of transportation. Walking is a perfect way to explore New York City.

New York City also has access to the Long Island Rail Road and the New Jersey Transit, with connections at Penn Station and the Metro-North Railroad, with connections at Grand Central Station.

Depending on where you're coming from and how you're getting there, transportation can be a real pain, especially in New York City. It really makes sense to stay on campus. But if you're not, train, bus, subways, or taxis are the best forms of transportation. Subways and buses being the cheapest.
