Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

The University is open, which means locals and non-students can come onto campus, so safety is highly stressed here. The students are in good hands and should not fret about their safety. The FAMU police are always around monitoring the students and campus. The safest places on campus are the classrooms, library, or near the dorms. It’s not recommended that students walk alone at night, but the campus is well lit and there are usually people out throughout the night if you must go somewhere alone. The unsafe areas would have to be behind buildings where no one can see you, but for the most part, the campus is very safe. Most students say they feel safe walking around campus day or night because of the heavy presence of campus police. The police are always out and about interacting with students, and some students even know officers by name.

The student health center is a great place for students to turn to for counseling, testing, and health services. They offer free HIV testing, STD testing, Planned Parenthood counseling, and everything else a health center should offer. The staff is really friendly and always ready to help the students.

Safety of Students

Even though we have campus police, i still feel like when it is at night time you HAVE to be with somebody you cannot just walk alone when you feel like it. Because our campus is an open campus so that means anybody can walk onto campus and leave. So i feel that if you want to go somewhere you must always have a walking buddy.

Really Really Safe

I have never felt unsafe on FAMU's campus, or had to worry about my belongings. In fact, every thing I have ever lost on campus has been returned to me. Too bad you can't say that about any place else.

Very Safe

FAMU was very safe and I did not have any problems. My apartment complex was totally safe and campus police was canvassing the University on a regular. I never felt unsafe and I would recommend FAMU to anyone. I love FAMU.
