Things I Wish I Knew Before Coming To School
  • Different ethnic groups also attend this HBCU; it’s not only for African Americans.
  • If you join a big organization on campus, people will always be watching you.
  • Some administrative people are rude in the financial aid office.
  • The campus is really big.
  • There are many scholarships out there, so consult with your adviser.

Rattler for Life

The incomparable Florida A&M University offers nothing but the best college experience for students seeking a campus fulfilled with determined, confident, and "school-spirited" students. From "Club Coleman" to "The Set", fun and college life is written all over the FAMU Rattlers. Most importantly, the academic experience is one of the greatest, not to mention FAMU was named one of the top 100 universities by "Washington Monthly" and one of the best colleges in the Southeast by the "Princeton Review". Who can compete with that?

It's a Great School for Differentation

You get to meet alot of different people from all over the world because of it being a HBCU and alot of people wanting to see how an HBCU is.

HBCU

Florida A&M University is a Historically Black University. The campus overflows with black history, from the buildings founded and built in the early 1900's, to the Black Archives building. The Black Archives building is a historical building on campus where items are kept from the past and brutal history of African-Americans, differing in times as far back as the late 1800's, to the mid 1900's. The building serves as a reminder to all African-Americans about how far we have come as a whole race.

Traditions
  • Atlanta Classic: This is the football game between FAMU and Tennessee State.
  • The Classic: This is the annual football game against rival Bethune-Cookman University. This fashionable event is held in Orlando, and many students skip class just to attend.
  • Homecoming: This is one of the biggest annual traditions at FAMU. It’s a star-studded event where roads are blocked and things get crazy! People come back to FAMU from all over to attend the Homecoming events.
  • Set Friday: Each Friday, students head to The Set between 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. to listen to music provided by a DJ and check out Greek showcases, modeling troupe performances, or dance performances. There are also vendors selling clothing, sunglasses, and jewelry.
Urban Legends Some say Sampson and Young halls are haunted.
