Parking is a big issue here. There is limited parking, but parking rules are strictly enforced, so don’t try to park somewhere you’re not allowed. There are color-coded lots around campus where students may park—red is general parking and blue is for students who live on campus. But just because someone has a legal decal does not guarantee a parking space every day. So, if you want a good parking spot, arrive about 15 minutes before your classes start. Also, during big events on campus or football games, parking is even more limited, so you’ll probably just want to park off campus at these times because the parking garage is usually shut down or charges people to enter. On non-event days, most students prefer to use the parking garage next to the café and the parking area adjacent to the new gym.
There is no extra fee for a parking decal. Students are charged a transportation fee in their tuition, which covers parking. The decals must be renewed annually to be considered valid. Freshmen are not allowed to have a car on campus for their first year, and if they violate this rule, they’ll have to report to a student disciplinary officer.
