Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Overall, students can expect an average college experience from Florida Atlantic University, but the standards are improving. Admission is steadily becoming more competitive, with acceptance rates decreasing each year. Most professors are friendly and seem interested in the teaching subject matter. They are almost always readily available to give students extra assistance through office hours. However, they will not go out of their way to see that you do well. To find out which professors to take and which to avoid, students should take advantage of the many resources available to them, such as upperclassmen and professor-rating Web sites.

The workload is generally manageable, but can sometimes become overwhelming, though not unlike student experiences at other colleges and universities. There are extensive means of assistance (including a writing center, tutors, etc.) on campus to help if a student is struggling. FAU stands out among other universities because it introduced the nation's first degree program in ocean engineering that today is housed at SeaTech, a state-of-the-art research center in Dania Beach. FAU also houses the Center of Excellence in Biomedical and Marine Biotechnology, a research facility dedicated to searching Florida's coastal waters for sources of new pharmaceuticals. In addition, FAU has strong nursing, business, and education colleges.

You Should Read This!

My professors have always been understanding and willing to help when you ask for it. The curriculum for my classes have seem right and I believe I am learning enough in each class. Registration is ABSOLUTELY horrible. They never offer enough labs and classes get full in minutes. There is no avoiding the stress of registration at this school. There are many places on campus to study.
