Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

While Florida Atlantic University's varsity sports may not be quite as popular as at other schools, they are just as competitive. FAU has 18 varsity sports that compete in the NCAA's Division I Sun Belt Conference. While the football team has only existed since 2001, in 2007, the team became the youngest program ever to receive a bowl bid. Aside from football, FAU also offers basketball, ultimate Frisbee, bowling, and every other sport one could think of, with something for everyone.

Students [proudly wear their red, white, and blue, and tailgating and football games are an exciting part of fall semester. Other spirited events include "Bury the Burrow in Red," where Florida Atlantic students wear as much red as possible during the basketball game between Florida Atlantic and nearby Florida International University. There's an official on-campus spirit group called the "prOWLers," which formed in 2002 to support the men's basketball program during the team's run for the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship. Another traditional competition is the annual Shula Bowl, named after legendary coach Don Shula.

Enthusiasm for Everything but Football.

FAU is still a very young school, just having celebrated its 50th anniversary. Therefore its understandable that some of its sports team aren't quite up to par as of yet. This is especially true for the FAU football team, disappointing fans with many losses. Although the football team has yet to make the record books, other sports team at FAU seem to all over the news with their incredible seasons such as the basketball and baseball teams. These two sports team at FAU bring in significantly larger student followings than that of the football team.

Football Team

Even though we had a new stadium this year, our football team did horrible. I think we won one or maybe two games this past season. We will have a new coach next year so hopefully there is an improvement.

So Much Spirit!

Even though our school is fairly new we have so much support from the locals and students. We havent been at the top of our rankings but that doesnt stop us from having wonderful fans. The football games are amazing and the atmosphere during the game is unforgettable.
