Quick Stats

School Slang
  • The Breezeway: The long walkway that is the center of campus where one can find the bookstore, bank, classes, food court, Starbucks, and many other things
  • The Caf: Cafeteria, formerly known as the Center Marketplace
  • FLC: Freshman Learning Community
  • LLC: Living Learning Community
  • NightOwls: Campus security that runs golf cart shuttles to dorms, cars, etc., from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.

  • TA: Teaching assistant
Things I Wish I Knew Before Coming To School
  • Attend Supplemental Instruction (SI) sessions, usually held by your teaching assistant. They are free and help you to better understand material and ace your exams.
  • Do not bring everything you own with you to your dorm; rooms are small.
  • If commuting, get to school early for a good parking spot.
  • On the weekends, the school is basically dead because so many people are either commuters or go home on the weekends.
  • Pay parking tickets immediately because if you don't, they'll just get more expensive, and you might eventually end up with a boot on your car.
  • The Freshman Learning Communities are a great way to transition into college life; they help you to meet friends and excel in your classes.
  • The more involved you get, the better your experience will be.
  • Try to room with someone you know.

New Stadium

This year was the first year we had our own football stadium. It is very nice and a great addition to the school. Also the Engineering building is new and beautiful. The study room called the "cube", is breath taking. Even if you are not an engineer you will want to study there!

Diversity

Being in South Florida, we live in a melting pot. There so much diversity that even the oddest person is normal here. All the people are different and interesting. Our facilities are amazing and all the events on campus keep all the students involved.

Traditions
  • Bury the Burrow in Red: Bury the Burrow in Red calls for Florida Atlantic students to wear as much red as possible and fill the Burrow (the University multi-purpose arena) during the annual basketball game between FAU and nearby Florida International University.
  • Shula Bowl: This intercollegiate football game between FAU and FIU is named after legendary coach Don Shula. The game originates from the fact that both head coaches, Florida Atlantic's Howard Schnellenberger and former Florida International coach Don Strock, worked under Shula at some point during their careers. As a home game, the competition takes place at Dolphin Stadium. As an away game, the bowl is played at FIU Stadium in Miami.
  • Weeks of Welcome: During the first two weeks of school, FAU holds events to warm students up to the University and allow them to meet new people. There are barbecues, comedy shows, late-night movies, etc.
