Diversity Is Amazing

I love FAU and most of the professors are awesome and very knowledgable. It's really close to the beach...all campuses are very close to the beach. Of all the campuses I've been to, they are all very beautiful and unique in their own way. The diversity of people who attend FAU make it most enjoyable, I don't believe one will find the diversity in any other college. This college will be at the same level as FSU and UF in the near future. I had some amazing times, grew as a person and made some life long friends and connections. I lived on campus and was a commuter, I recommend everyone to live on campus if you have the opportunity, it was some of the best years of my life.

Ehh...

Tri-Rail is close, but sometimes inconvenient, but does a great job in getting you from West Palm down to Miami. Public Transit needs work but does go directly to school. Parking is an issue, FAU is a large commuter school. On campus shuttle is good, but I think they should work on a shuttle that goes from Tri-Rail to School, this would be more convenient and increase tri-rail ridership to school too.

Nothing Really There

Football team sucks and no one really goes to any of the other sporting events but maybe the new stadium will bring some hype. basketball season is fun. a lot of people go to the burrow and get free t shirts and watch the boys team.

Diversity at Florida Atlantic University:

There is diversity and that is a good thing! People get along and accept each other for who they are. I have never see any ethnic/racial problems and my cousin have been going here as well, so I am always on campus. People of all economic backgrounds are here as well. Political belief, religion, even sexual orientation is all well accepted here. People mind their own business and get involved in the activities they choose to.

Lacks Activities

The area surrounding the school lacks activities for students to engage in. This is the folly of the jupiter campus.

Drugs and Drinking About 50/50

There are drugs there ranging from weed to pills, and people do them, but no one cares if you do or don't, and same goes for drinking. So in summary people do both drugs and drinking, and people don't do either and most people are indifferent to it because no one cares really.

People Complain

I don't really have to deal with parking, but I can tell people have issues with it. During the week, if you live on campus, it is pretty bad to get a good space to park.

Diverse on the Outside, but Inside It Is Not

The school comprises of many different backgrounds but when it comes to student government it only has white students on the board. While athletically, it is mostly black.

Greek Life

Greek life revolves around the central campus in Boca.

Drug Scene

Alcohol and related drugs are controlled inside the University's campus.

Jupiter Activities

Jupiter is a small town where there is different activities for different people. We have Softball teams, bowling alley, movie theater, sports bar where you can watch the games at, and restaurants. We have Palm Beach State college close by. Plus we have the most beautiful beach close by.

Everywhere

13 fraternities, 11 sororities, the Greek Honor Society, the list goes on. Greek life, as a whole, on the FAU campus is involved. Period. You will see greek letters blazoned across chests and backs all around you. They are involved in community activities, student life, campus events, showcases, parties, and still maintain a clear focus on the educational aspects of college.

Have It All..

I'm not apart of that scene, but they are all over the center walkways making their groups public! The really seem to draw the crowds over. Each Monday and Tuesday it seems as if there are just dozens.

FAU FASHION

It is like a fashion show at FAU. From the skaters to the urban vibe, I trully enjoy walking through the breezeway to admire the different culture and different taste at the school, both girls and boys take their attire and look very serious and that is a plus for the school

The Meet and Greet of the College World

I guess it is a place where food along with other things are enjoyed, like friendships and meeting complete strangers

Diversity

I went to the track to juggle a soccer ball last night. When I got there, two white guys were warming up, but I paid little attention to them. After about forty-five minutes of juggling, it seemed that people of every race and nation had spilled onto the turf. The first kid I talked to told me his name was Jerry, but that wasn't his real name. He moved here from Colombia but he couldn't take the butchery any longer. The next guy I met came to Florida from Eritrea: a country I know nothing more about than its location on a map. There were many other diverse people playing soccer whose ethnicity I could only guess because I was hungry so I had to leave. My roomates girlfriend was born in Jamaica for Pete's sake. The majority at FAU is white, but we have a hearty mix of people on our campus. I love it.

East Boca Raton: College Student Land

Living on 20th st behind FAU is perfect for students to thrive due to the fact you are located barely a mile from a food store. fast food, or restaurant. There are also many places where students can hang, such as on campus bar Coyote Jacks or places like boardriders, the lodge, and many others. There is of course the sports arena at fau that holds games. There is the mall just a few minutes from the house.

Go Greek!

There are a decent number of Greek organizations (15-20) including historically black organizations. That said, fraternity-wise the biggest ones are Delta Tau Delta, SigEp, PIKE and ATO. Sorority-wise, it's all Delta Phi Epsilon and Alpha Xi Delta. There is a plan to not only expand the number of Greek organizations to 30 by 2014 but also provide 6-8 houses by that time as well - there is already a committee working on it right now under the direction of Student Affairs. Right now most of the Greek events are pool parties and grill-outs, with the highlight of the year being Greek Week... something taken VERY seriously by FAU Greeks! P.S. A "Go Greek" store is opening in Fall 2010 to service FAU's ever-expanding Greek population.

Greek Life Is Average

There are many people part of the greek life. They are always seen around campus wearing their colors or sometimes doing chants but they are very down to earth and some organizations are about community events not only partying.

Their Behavior

Greek life is a bit different from the others on campus. they get to hangout together, if you get lucky to hangout with them once it is not going to happen twice.They also have an office, their Mission (the Greek Life Office) is to provide the fraternities and sororities with educational programs and services that create, promote, and foster a learning community.

FAU Computers

There are plenty of computers around campus for the students to use. Each computer lab has a printer and there is also a printing store where students can have their assignments printed and or binded. The entire campus has wireless access including every dorm room.

Honors College of FAU

Okay, straight up. If you come here to get a great education, I can't think of a better place. For many majors this school is on par with Ivy League schools in terms of what you will learn and how challenging it is. Great professors here. I can't overstate the quality of some of the faculty at the HC. I've made connections here that have directly influenced what I have decided to study in graduate school. I have direction now that I did not have previously before attending the HC.

Now for the bad. If you come here expecting the typical (read: good) college social life you will be very VERY disappointed. Some of the students here are crazy, others have, quite honestly, terrible personalities. During my time here I've heard about a male student emotionally forcing his girlfriend to have an abortion, a female student lying to the cops about being raped, and another student who was baker acted. This wouldn't be so bad if the school was larger (there's only 200 or so students) allowing the insanity to be spread out a bit. People here usually fall into two groups, those who are socially active, but get wrapped up in crazy #%!@ or are crazy themselves, and those who isolate themselves and focus only on schoolwork to make it through this place. On the plus side i've made a few lasting friendships that I value dearly, but such great people are few and far between here.

To continue: the housing situation is awful. This is mainly because of the housing director, who is frankly a bit of a jerk. This guy is on a total power trip and likes to manipulate the RAs and the students. The financial advantages of working as an RA (not me) pale in comparison to the loss of self respect you will go through by jumping through this guy's hoops. Most RAs don't have the self-awareness to realize this. If they replaced him and treated the students with a bit more respect, this wouldn't be so bad. It's funny that just after I graduated (2011) they don't force people to live in the dorms anymore, bad luck on my part I guess.

The question you should ask yourself is what kind of student do you want to be? If you are serious and want to establish a career (this school is exceptional for pre-med) then go for it. If you want to have a bit of fun and don't care about grades so much, I'd recommend the main campus in boca, or another school in florida such as FSU or UF. Although, I've dealt with alot of bad social aspects at this school, I am still grateful for attending it as it's allowed me to begin the career I have always wanted.

Growing Commuter School

FAU is a growing university experiencing growing pains. It is a commuter school and lacks a sense of community and aesthetic appeal.

3 Campus Reviews

In Boca there are some dark spots that school can better illuminate, but in the 4 years I lived on campus I almost always felt safe, as long as one uses the buddy system you should never have a problem. I heard of some issues, but it usually was late at night and they usually traveled alone. Keep doors locked because I did get my laptop stolen once. The campus is beautiful in the day and at night and I had a lot of fun.

Davie campus is a quiet campus that is really pretty and never felt uncomfortable.

Downtown campus is pretty safe too security is always available and I haven't had any issues with the downtown campus.

Extremely Pleased

My first day in class I knew already that this was the best school for my major. The teacher here are very well educated and practice/ have practiced in the field they instruct. I plan to graduate from FAU with my Bachelors in Exercise Science and continue my education in Physical Therapy school. I am certain that my teachers here will prepare me for my future endevours.
