Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Many FGCU students like the University, for the most part. Involvement in activities is often key. Getting involved in organizations like intramural sports and attending campus events are two great ways to make friends on campus. You come to the school not knowing anyone, but it's up to you to make that change. However, one drawback that students note is that some FGCU students still act like they are in high school, having their own little groups and cliques. Either way, it's good to remember that your college experience is up to you. Other students will tell you that they couldn't imagine themselves anywhere else!

Although Florida Gulf Coast University is often considered a very small school with not much going on, many learn to love the tight-knit homeyness of it. Fort Myers may not be a vast metropolis with a lot to do, but there is still plenty to get involved with on campus; plus, Fort Myers does have a variety of places to eat at. Overall, the campus is clean, and for a young school, is growing every day. FGCU is a great school for any freshman to start at or for any transfer student to transfer to.

Recreation Center

The recreation center at FGCU is great. I love the free access offered to me as student; including free group fitness classes. I regularly attend spin, martial arts, and yoga classes. The only issue I have is that at times I show up for a class only to find it has been cancelled.

I'd Do It Again

It is really east to get involved at FGCU because it is a smaller school. Getting involved is the most important thing you can do in college and it is easy and fun here. But if you dont like the small school atmosphere then you won't like it. It has to be your cup of tea.

Couldn't Get Better

If you are looking for traditionally sunny weather, don't look any farther. It is sunny with no clouds most of the year. It rains for three months in the summer, practically always after 3 p.m. In the winter it hits low 50's for a few weeks, but the sun and warmth is always there.
