Going to college in Florida was the best idea... it's winter time and it's 70 degrees, I don't think it gets better then that!

still a work of progress

Most times it is bright and sunny and warm out, since it is Florida so most games or festivals can go on as scheduled. When it rains it is normally for about 5-10 minute periods and is a light and warm sprinkle. I've never really had the weather affect campus negatively.

Campus is really strict when it comes to safety, but that is because our campus is an open campus and so they are trying to do everything to keep the students safe. Yes, it is overbearing at times, but I'd rather be safe than not.

I normally just eat at home, but for special occasions there are a few good restaurants. However, if you were to go out a lot, then the food is normally of the same variety just called different things. Most places do NOT give out student discounts and are averagely priced. However, very few stay open passed 10 pm.

Some of our teams are good, however, no one every hears about them. We have about ten different sports for guys and girls to play for varsity and then we have intramural sports. School pride is definitely not seen at Florida Tech, but it might get there one day.

Getting into a major is a breeze, it is staying that is hard. You just need a decent high school GPA and grades. From there you need to take certain tests to get into general required courses such as English and Math.

Security has this policy of no backing into parking, however, it is only sometimes enforced. Parking tickets cost $45.00 per semester or $80.00 for the entire year and it can take anywhere between 5 minutes to 30 minutes to find a parking space. If you live on campus then the need for a car is minimal, if you live off-campus then you NEED a car. Fines are exceedingly expensive and they range from backing into a spot, plate expired, parking on the grass to the normal illegally parking in handicap spots.

Health & Safety:
Security is always there from when students are throwing a party and getting to busted to when a student needs to be let into their rooms. They are overbearing, but safety comes first for them. However, the health care center is the worst I have ever seen. They honestly told one of my friends, who was virgin, that she was pregnant! She then went to the real hospital off-campus and they told her she had the flu and she was fully recovered in about two weeks.

I hear about the Greek Life a lot, but I never went to their parties or joined because they were rather expensive. To join it is about $1,200 a year, some are more if you want in the house. Most do not have houses however. The administrative faculty love the Greeks, but the students are normally indifferent to them because some are nice and some are snots.

Most taxis will come within a half hour of calling, but taxis do not drive by and are expensive!. The bus is very reliable and reasonably priced. The school shuttle is free for students and runs every 15 minutes.

Financial Aid was easy for my school and they also offer the early fillers award for those who fill it out before a certain date. As long as you can get onto the website and fill out your information quickly it is fine. The problem is sometimes the school will award scholarships, but not notify students of the requirements to get the money from the scholarship. I was awarded financial aid every year without a problem, except that my school is exceedingly expensive and my family is broke. I have had to take out lots of loans, but in the end my two degrees will be worth it.

The computer labs are amazing, the problem comes with the printing complications. The network is great, when it works, but exceedingly frustrating when it crashes. The school does not require you to bring your own computers to class and most professors won't even allow it, but having one for studying and for papers will save you wait time. The computers in the computer lab go by fast.

Some of the buildings are relatively new, but most dorms are old and cold. It is also about 10,000 dollars alone to live on campus per year. However, the dorms are close to classes, except the freshman dorms. Not the worst, but not the best either.
College Senior 2013-11-18T20:03:45Z
There are a couple bars downtown, but they are just that old school bars. There are zero clubs with actual music to dance to, the drink prices are slightly more expensive then my hometown, and most atmospheres are sketch.

The community is safe, but it is a retirement community with a college campus put in the middle. Everything, except some fast food restaurants, closes at 10 pm on week days and maybe 11 pm on week ends. There are a million furniture stores and car sales, but very few actual things to do for college kids. However, it is close to the beach, so that is always a plus for a marine biology student.

If someone wants something bad enough they will always find a way to get it. However, my school is very good at noticing who is doing what and when and where for a bust. If they cannot stop it completely from getting onto the campus then they will make it so no one wants to get caught at the least.

There are tons of things to do on campus, but we lack campus pride. We just recently got a football team, but as most know it takes a while until the team is going to win. So our school pride has decreased even more. There are however great spots to hang out. The Ratskeller and the Black Cat are great places on campus. They allow a fresh atmosphere and a relaxing environments. There are games, TV's, computers, and pool tables along with the decent food and amazing milkshakes. Most people make friends by being involved in clubs on campus and the clubs perform for either Homecoming or the International Festival. My school has a lot of international students from varying backgrounds and at the International Festival all the cultures are celebrated. My school may not have normal school pride in sports, but we come together for the International Festival and support each other and our differences.

I am a duel major; Marine Biology, B.S., and a Psychology, B.S. The Psychology department is amazing. They help all the students and you can actually see that all the professors want you to succeed. In the Biology department it is varied. There are some professors who seem to really care and there are those that do not. However, this school still has it's advantages; they helped me find an amazing internship in Bermuda where I was able to train dolphins for an entire summer and they allow undergraduates to do research with professors. The equipment is not always up to date, but not everything can be perfect. In short every school has it's ups and downs, but my school has been helping me get where I want to go, I just need the money to afford it.
