Biology Major

I was very happy with the Biology program at FIU. I enjoyed my time in the program and if I could do it all over again I would. My career goal is to become a physician. The most difficult part of this goal would be getting into the school of my choice. I feel that FIU has given me the tools to succeed in the future and gain entry into a medical school.

Unsafe and Unhealthy

The staff at the small free clinic will gladly shout out your personal information for other students to hear. Police are never around unless there is some incident of (usually gang related) violence. Thankfully that does happen quite often. This is a school swarming with questionable and dangerous characters.

And whats worse is that there aren't enough to go around.

Very Obnoxious Police Force

It seems that officers are never around when you need them.

Typical Miami People

There are 3 campuses at FIU.

Modesto campus has mostly Latino/gueedo type people.

Engineering center is full of asians and geeeks

Biscayne campus is more of a Eastern European and Haitian crowd.

Weather

The weather in Miami is mostly sunny and hot! Which can be a little annoying considering you can get a tan from just walking outside for 5 minutes. When it rains, thats even worse because walking distance from the parking lots is pretty far, however, they do provide shuttles that take students from their cars to drop off areas around the campus closest to their classes.

Life Here at FIU

I am enrolled in the Accelerated Program of Architecture here at FIU. I, along with my peers, spend my days and most nights in the studio. As we work we sing, dance, play sports, skateboard and have a fantastic time together. I have made a home away from home here with Architecture which has helped me adjust to Miami life as I live far away from home.

I would definitely choose this school over and over again for the diversity, family that I've made and experiences that allowed me to adjust to living on my own.

Perfectly at Ease

Florida International has their own police team. It's comforting to be on campus because they are always patrolling and present so students are kept safe.

I used to live on campus and run after a long day of classes around the loop. Since then, I have moved off campus but still drive the two miles to FIU to run because I feel safer running in the dark on campus rather than my apartment. The campus police do a fantastic job of protecting the campus, directing traffic efficiently and keeping crime to a minimal.

A few weeks ago the fair came to town. The fair grounds are situated right next to campus and those who were going often decided to cut through campus which backed up traffic for all of the students and faculty trying to get to and from school. I never had to wait in a line more than five minutes thanks to the campus police who worked efficiently to clear out the back up.

I have not heard of campus crime here at FIU. Nothing has ever been stolen or destroyed of mine and I feel at ease with keeping my car in the parking lot and leaving my models at my desk in the Architecture building.

Along with the campus police, FIU has a SWAT team used for extra precautions situated right next to the Architecture building which is where I spend most of my days. Who wouldn't feel safe with teams of people prepared to protect the students here at FIU? I know I do.

FIU Has the BEST Dining Options!

FIU's dining is so broad that it is impossible not to find something to eat and it's affordable! There's a Chili's, Sushi Maki, Pollo Tropical, Burger King, Bistro, Einstein Bagels, Subways, and the University cafeteria.And it is all located on campus in the same building. They also have one starbuck's in the library and another in one of their buildings!

FIU :)

I just completed two semesters at MDC before coming to FIU and I can honestly say that FIU exceeds MDC in every category! FIU has a better social life more luxurious dorm rooms and class rooms. They're diversity of foods is well priced(affordable) and they have all food places even a Chili's and Sushi Maki! The professors are very helpful and understanding! There's several fun clubs and frats/sororities. The Sporting events are very enjoyable! There really is a lot of life at this university making it fun to get your education! :)

Miami

Miami is such a huge city! There is so much diversity. On campus you can find all types of cultures as well as out on the streets. The main places to be is South Beach known for its night life. Very fun if you are looking to have a good time.

Good Professors

I'm in the School of Journalism. I feel very satisfied so far with my classes, all my professors have at some point been out in the field and know what is all about. I've had some very good professors who are always helping you in any questions you might have. As well as giving you tips on how to improve yourself and have more experience when is your time to be out in the field.

Unfortunately Inevitable

Everyone comes here because they have to, very few elect to stay. If you're looking for the typical Miami experience go to the University of Miami. If you can't afford that, don't go to FIU. Save your money.

Terrible Part of Town

Unsafe and messy part of town. I wouldn't live on or off-campus to be quite honest.

Housing More Than Tuition?

Not sure in what world people sacrifice the cost of nice living conditions to wake up 10 minutes later. The dorms are drab (but that is to be expected from any school). Various dorms have different reputations, but they really are all the same. Panther hall is "ghetto" and yet its the people that live in the typically and not the actual rooms themselves.

Overall FIU

Overall, FIU is an excellent school, with many events to participate, providing and exceptional education experience.

Good but Expensive

The options around campus are good, but any venue can be expensive. They also do not take any coupons or participate in the franchise's value meals. The meal plans can also be a bit confusing and very expensive.

Eye Candy Galore

FIU has lots of good looking students. I will label the different groups by nationality, hoping not to offend anyone. The Cuban girls are known for being high maintenance and look very pretty with their highlighted blonde hair and Michael Kors purses. I mention them first because they are the hispanic majority in Miami. The White Americans wear flip flops and don't really care about how they dress but look cute nonetheless. The Black Americans are in really great shape and outgoing, most are in some kind of sport. The other Hispanics are super duper attractive, and races include Colombians, Venezuelans, Dominicans, Hondurans, Peruvians, Mexicans, Ecuadorians (the list keeps going), each with exotic beauty and their own personal style. There are also many Middle Eastern and Asian people, again very exotic and beautiful people.

Professors & Classwork

I am in the engineering college, and I am satisfied with the education FIU provides. The professors are very helpful and will work with. I do recommend using ratemyprofessor.com when selecting your classes because some professors aren't the best t their job and they don't care.

It's What You Make of It

There are so many people who go to FIU it would be near impossible to talk about a standard look. Whatever you want, you will find. Most of the girls are very attractive, the boys can be a toss up. The school is generally Hispanic which translates to generally short boys. Most tend to be shallow and ignorant. The age range at FIU is from 18-27 for undergrads so there is a huge difference in maturity level.

Diversity

There is a lot of different cultures and ethnicites seen at school. It is very intreasting to see the all the cultures clash together and join together in school spirit.

Always Wanting to Look Good

Girls and guys alike take a lot of time to look good in school. Whether its very dressed up or in gym clothes so that they can work out. Its very diverse here so there are people from all backgrounds and countries which shows the gorgeous people from all over the world.

Campus

The hosing is very good. The dorms are extremely clean and the maintence are always happy to be working. Housing is the best in my opinon.

Girls Are Attractive, Guys Not So Much

There are a lot more attractive females here then attractive males. We have pretty girls of all races, and a lot of the guys look funky and unclean.

Can't Really Describe Them.

At FIU you will find them all, Hispanics mostly but asians, blacks, whites too. FIU is very diverse in that way.
