Lakeland is very accommodating to its students, mostly because of the small-town atmosphere. Businesses are very willing to help out school organizations with donations for fundraisers. Special offers for students are sometimes available as well, especially in the case of small businesses. Despite its size, Lakeland has many opportunities for entertainment that may not be as obvious or visable as in a big city, but exist nevertheless. Many days can be spent away from campus, just exploring the small shops or relaxing around many of the nearby lakes. Be sure to bring bread for the ducks! If small-town adventures aren't entertaining enough, Orlando and Tampa are an hour away from campus. Both cities hold enough theme parks, clubs, and other activities to satisfy anyone. Plus, beaches are close by for a good weekend away from campus.
During the day, most students are somewhere on campus, whether for a class, meeting, or athletics. In the evening and on weekends, numerous events are held. A good number of students, including upperclassmen, will stay on campus for these events, which often include music and free food, so there is always a good reason to attend. Plus, most students find these events are a good way to socialize because their friends are the ones who hosted the student-organized event. Another reason why students tend to stick around on campus, especially at night, is that some areas around Lakeland are not the best areas to be in after dark.

Quiet but Eventful
Lakeland is a small city that is fairly quiet and more suburban than anything, but the downtown area is fairly eventful and has a few shops and events every month.

Small but Big
Lakeland is a large town, but the location of the school makes it feel much smaller and quaint. It sits directly on a lake and has plenty of opportunities right on campus. There are shopping areas nearby. Downtown always seems to have something going.
