Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

The most popular form of transportation is a car. The majority of students brings their car, especially if they are from Florida. Out-of-state students sometimes bring their car, but it is not necessary. Because so many students bring their car, finding a ride somewhere is very easy.

Throughout the month, a campus shuttle will depart from school for shopping excursions. The frequency of these outings can be inconvenient because they are not every weekend. Therefore, students must plan ahead for what they need to buy, unless they can find a way to shop on their own. On a positive note, the service is free, so there is no need to worry about gas or money for a taxi. Lakeland is small and close-knit, so biking can be an option, too. In addition to getting some exercise, biking can allow access to nearby stores and restaurants without having to pay for gas or a taxi. Bike racks can be found around campus, close to dorms for easy access.

Transportation

The school is walkable so if your going to stay on campus you won't need a car; however, there is not much on campus so having one is a must; especially with tampa and orlando only 45 minutes away each.

You Need a Car

Public transportation consists of a few buses which are confusing and sketchy. Everything is within 15 min driving distance though so having a car is ideal.

Typical

There are not too many public transportation options available in Lakeland, and the need is not urgent on campus. After hours, if you feel unsafe walking around campus, a safety officer will gladly pick you up and drive you to your destination. During the day, the campus is small enough that you can walk to and from classes easily. Around town, there are buses that are reasonably priced, but they do not run long, and the stop locations are inconvenient. For long distances, there are taxi services, but you must call them for service, and they are outrageously priced.
