The closer to school the apartment is, the lower in quality.

There's Plenty...But Not Infinite – There is always parking available. Overnight is a little tougher if you live on campus and want to park as close to your dorm as possible. However, you don't have to leave for class more than 5 minutes earlier than you normally would to ensure a spot. In addition, most apartments for commuters are right off campus and those students either walk, bike, or take the school buses that come around every 10 minutes. There's always a place to park, but not always right next to where you want to go. If you don't mind a walk you will never have a problem.

The frats are all off campus in their own gated community on the northeast side of campus and are usually well behaved. There are almost infinite options to choose from, and the housing is very nice. The sororities are on the south side of campus, actually on campus. There are just as many options to choose from, and all the houses are absolutely beautiful and well maintained.

Guys & Girls:
FSU has its own movie theater at the Student Life center which plays movies Monday through Saturday every week. We average 2-3 advanced screenings per semester. Our Leach Center (three levels) has a full choice of weights and indoor pool and track with stairs. There are also two basketball courts and several rooms that can be used for racquetball or similar activities, and a smoothie place inside. Tully Gym,next door, has more courts that can be used for basketball, volleyball, wrestling, or anything else you can name. There are two outdoor field complexes which can be used for baseball/softball, soccer, football, ultimate frisbee, etc. Our libraries, one of which is always open 24 hours, all have wi-fi and ample labs and space. There are also reservable study rooms. If you like to party, there are plenty of bars and clubs on the north side of campus. On the south side are all the sorority houses, and the frats on the northeast corner in their own gated community. The school also has its own venue, Club Downunder, where performers come to play and people can go to watch or dance. It has it's own bar upstairs and is free to attend. The union has an art center and bowling alley as well as a Chili's and Smoothie shop. There is also a 24-hour Denny's on campus. We have several parking garages and lots that are overnight and tons that are commuter. Commuter lots are overnight on the weekends as well. Faculty lots open after 5pm during the week. Our libraries also have free tutoring available for almost every subject imaginable and if they don't they will try to set it up. Professors are accessible in person by either appointment or office hours and are very flexible in meeting with students. We also have a high girl to guy ratio with about 3-5 girls per guy attending classes. There are plenty of dorms and on campus events and over 500 student organizations available to join with more starting up every semester.

Movies, Gym, Libraries, Union, Oh My! Florida State has awesome facilities! Ranging from daily free movies at the Student Life Center which also has plenty of computer for gaming to the Leech Gym Center with weights and machines, an indoor pool and track, and rooms for racquetball and two basketball courts. Tully Gym has tons of room for basketball, wrestling, volleyball, you name it. We also have two outdoor field facilities for soccer, football, ultimate frisbee, etc. We have several libraries all of which have study rooms, computer labs, and free tutoring. We have fast food everywhere, and on campus salad place, smoothies, and a Chili's as well. There is also a 24-hour Denny's on campus. There are also plenty of fine dining restaurants right near campus as well. On the North side of campus is the strip with bars and clubs, if you are into that sort of thing. On the south side of campus are all of the sorority houses, and the frats are on the northeast side in their own little community. We also have an awesome student union with too many things to list, but included is an art center and computer labs. You can get from any side of campus to the other in no more than 15 minutes, and yet it is still pretty big and beautiful.

We Have a Circus! The most unique aspect of FSU is our Flying High Circus, where students can participate in a club which allows them to learn circus acts and perform them once a semester in a big showcase for the student body and any interested citizens of Tallahassee. It's not a major, there are some classes but they aren't really for academic credit.
There is also a pretty good radical punk scene which gets involved in a lot of grassroots events protecting the environment and raising awareness for lots of causes, particularly the rights of feminists and minority groups.

Lots of Colors, Languages and Cultural Events – Although there are a lot of southern white people, there are tons of people of different races at FSU, all speaking different languages, wearing different clothes and eating different food. We ahve a center for cultural engagement which holds events representing these cultures, a vegan hari krishna lunch buffet every week day, as well as many options for languages to be taken in the language center. This is a pretty culturally diverse school for it's location in the middle of nowhere north florida. We are also really close to FAMU and often work in conjunction with their campus, which has a very large African American population, making the area around FSU very diverse although the areas around campus are not so. For sexual diversity, the culture still hasn't caught up to the times, but we do have a Pride center on campus and lots of students working to make the air on campus more tolerant. Unfortunately, not many members of the student body have caught up with this trend.

Dining is pretty great near FSU, even as a vegetarian I've had a very easy time finding affordable places to eat that are open very late. Almost all restaraunts are open past 10 during the week, past 11 or even midnight on weekends. Best places include Mr. Robotos (meals between 7-12 dollars, lots of food, vegetarian options), Momo's Pizza (3.75 for a slice, never met a person who can eat more than one huge slice, any toppings you want for just a little more), the Pitaria (more expensive, about 10 a plate, but delicious, vegetarian options and well made, open late). Lots of froyo places which are by the oz and have coupons out and around campus as well as promotions all of the time. We also have the classic Moe's, Chipotle, Taco Bell, McDonalds, Burger King and Jimmy John's. On campus we have a Chili's which can be paid with with flex bucks. The dining situation is one of the best parts of this school. All restaraunts listed are within walking distance of any place on or around campus.

Public transportation at school is relatively good. There are always buses going to and from campus, allowing people to easily get to school. There is little to no parking however, which makes it really hard to get to class on time if there is no parking.
College Senior 2011-04-07T18:09:26Z
The Drug scene at FSU is relatively low. I have never been asked or seen anything that I was not comfortable with. Most people are above the influence, and it makes hanging out and studying a lot easier when no one is giving into peer pressure.
College Senior 2011-04-07T18:04:50Z
Tallahassee Community – The local atmosphere for the Tallahassee community is very laid back. Everyone is very friendly, and willing to help others in need. There is always somewhere to go hang out, no matter your age. Both partying and studying are looked up to, so you never feel left out.

Don't Have to Be 21 to Have Fun – Always something happening, football season is the best!

Up and Coming – Freshman dorms are not the best, however, FSU is in the process of demolishing and replacing 2 of the oldest dorms. That being said, campus living is very convenient since parking can be brutal. The University does have a transit system with buses running all day and into the early evening. Lots of great places to eat, watch movies, bowl right on campus.

Health & Safety:
Personal Safety – I feel very safe on campus all the time, police is always available when needed.

The parking is the one bad thing about FSU. I live off campus and in order to make it to class on time I have to leave my apartment an hour early to ensure that I will find parking.

Lots of Options – There are so many places to eat of campus! There is a good variety right off campus but there is a lot more in Tallahassee that is delicious. As long as you have a car you should be good.
Recent Alumnus 2011-03-28T20:17:40Z
Pretty Good – The food is pretty good. The nice thing is that there are always a lot of options and there are always sandwiches, salads, cereal, pizza and dessert along with other options. For the most part my dining experience has been good. There have only been a few times that I have been disappointed.

MIX SAFETY WITH FUN – HERE AT FSU, THE CAMPUS ALLOWS FOR STUDENTS TO EXPERIMENT WITH THEIR INDEPENDANCE AND FINALLY BEING AWAY FROM HOME BUT ALSO MAKES SURE THAT EVEYRONE DOES IT IN A SAFE WAY THAT DOES NOT PUT THEM OR OTHERS AT RISK.

All Aboard the Trolley – FSU Panama City main transportation relies on the trolley or the campus shuttle. If students need to get somewhere quickly or in a timely manner it is best just to use your own car. The campus parking lots are great and well-kept so there is no threats of break-ins.
Recent Alumnus 2011-03-27T18:37:15Z
Cut & Dry – The Panama City Campus is more diverse in the age range of students. There you'll find people of various ages obtaining there degrees. Nonetheless, the campus lacks a solid minority population. But, everyone is still friendly regardless of race or age.
Recent Alumnus 2011-03-27T18:34:30Z
Off Campus Living – Housing on the Panama City campus is totally on the students. The campus isn't as big as main campus so everyone commutes to school. If you check the Student Affairs Office though, there are flyers for potential housing.

Well Hello There, Sunshine – Living in Florida, we usually have great weather all year round. In springtime, it is usually very sunny and people usually lay out on the grass, in their bathing suits, in front of their dorms or on Landis Green, which is a very popular place to gather and hang out. Summertime, many students go back home and campus is usually very quiet but one can observe other students just sitting outside reading, doing their, homework, riding their bikes, and skateboarding, just to enjoy the beautiful weather. A lot more outdoor activities being to occur like frisbee games and water balloon fights. When fall comes around, the leaves begin to change colors and this is when more indoor activities begin but this is also when our football season begins and everyone is usually very pumped up and ready for that to begin. When winter begins, it can get very cold here. To others 20 and 30 degree weather may not be considered cold, but when one is used to 70 and 80 degree weather all year long, a couple days of this cold weather can be brutal.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
