Health & Safety:
The school is situated in an economically unstable area. Lots of homeless people and dangerous people live within walking distance of the campus. There are robberies and killings almost every week.
College Senior 2012-10-14T16:48:56Z
The campus looks great and there are almost unlimited things to do but the school is overcrowded and the faculty does not look out for students. Any school that purposely weeds out students needs some shaping up

The creative writing program at Florida State University has impeccable critically acclaimed staff who possess a genuine concern for individual growth. I enjoy constantly being challenged through the rigorous and fruitful coursework, and have seen drastic improvements in my writing within the past year. I enjoy reading the works of professors like Erin Belieu, David Kirby, and James Kimbrell and am honored to study under such successful contemporary geniuses.

I am very happy with my program, Special Education. The college of Education is made of a very friendly and knowledgeable class, Dr. Funk is especially helpful. He is my adviser and he suggested classes that I enjoy and he will make sure that you do not overload your schedule.

Parking lots are sparsely placed, though the transit system is fairly reliable. The perk though is that there is no charge for parking on campus with a FREE parking pass.

There is so much diversity on FSU's campus. All students appear to be accepted from what I can gather. There are many different campus organizations to join to meet people with similar backgrounds, also. It seems as though everyone is accepted for who they are.

I love the College of Law. Any college that you are apart of really looks after you and make sure your needs, wants, thoughts, and questions are fulfilled. There is no reason for a student to not know what to do in their major because the campus has a open door policy and there is always someone to talk to.

The area i am located in is a college town where most people come just for school. However, it can get dangerous at times.

It's too expensive for students trying to go to school and pay bills at the same time. Most students are barely working so that means they are not getting paid that much because they are focused on school.

We have actual police on campus, not just campus safety. Our officers have the power of arrest. They take drug safety seriously and it's really comforting knowing that the chances of being around drugs aren't high. Alcohol is allowed in some dorms if you are of age. They are good about enforcing the standards, rules, and law here.

There are many great residence halls on campus. However, there are several older hall that are in great need of renovations.

FSU alerts is a very responsive and effective system; have yet to see a crime alert sent out without notification of an arrest within hours.

Student life is great. Our campus is utterly beautiful with a great mix of antique architecture, modern buildings, and nature. Our athletics is amongst the best, most complete and accomplished in the nation. And there are so many things on campus to keep you busy that you'll hardly every get bored. Between our circus, our movie theater (both of these IN campus), athletics, student life in the Union, and all the nature spots to hang out, FSU leaves you wanting more.

I myself have not wanted or required to take an internship so am not too sure, from first hand experience, the quality of it. However my fiance, and English Writing and Media Major was required to take an internship and she told me she loved it and that it was very easy to obtain. It required a bit of work and a kind-of-long-paper at the end, but it was worth it, according to her.

Here at Florida State University we have Garnet and Gold pride to the utmost max. There is a huge sense of community and everyone is extremely nice. Most of our sports (basketball, football volleyball, soccer, and baseball), men and women's, are amazingly entertaining and nationally ranked top ten. I love my Literature Major here at FSU because the faculty is just amazing and I've had many professors that have just blown me away with their insight.

I received a few scholarships and grants to get by but I also am enrolled in the Florida Prepaid Program so that helped a great bit.

There are multiple computer labs and libraries that provide computers to work on. Strozier Library is open 24 hours a day so that is very accessible. You are allowed to print in every lab except it costs 8 cents per page which is a little expensive in my opinion. You don't need a personal computer but I suggest one. Some dorms have wireless access but if not you need to bring your own ethernet cable.

There are multiple dining options to choose from for every type of person. I am a picky eater, myself, and there are still tons of options to choose from. The cost ranges but most of it is relatively cheap compared to how much it costs to eat in a dining hall located on campus. I suggest Zaxby's and Panda Express.

Everyone is diverse at Florida State University. Greek life is very popular here but I have also met some kids who are into the punk scene and others who are very studious and not interested in social life.

Health & Safety:
I don't think there is any sort of "safety issue" on FSU campus, but there have been times where I would be walking by myself from a concert and wouldn't see a single FSUPD officer/squad car, etc. FSU offers the SAFE Bus system where you can call them and they will pick you up and drop you off wherever you need to go. The only problem with that is, sometimes you can't reach them, or their mailbox will be full, etc. etc. I think no matter the safety rating for a college, people should take steps to ensure their safety, such as not going walking by yourself at 2a.m. down a dark alley when you've been drinking. We received daily FSU Crime Alerts through email and text about people who would do silly things like that, and then something bad would happen. Just be smart!

The freshman dorm that I lived in, Cawthon Hall, was newly renovated when I moved in and it was great. It always smelled clean, the janitorial staff was VERY friendly, and the climate control was just right. It's known as the "music" dorm, so, it was nice to be able to practice my Horn in my room or downstairs in the practice rooms. I highly recommend staying in this dorm, even though it is a bit expensive because you are required to have a meal plan to live there, it is WELL worth it!
Sorry, there are no reviews.
