Depends Who You Get – Make sure to do your research before picking classes. The College of music is full of great professors and TA's but also some not so good ones. A lot of the time, many of the applied music TA's are not trained in education, but solely in performance which can be very frustrating.

Diverse, Like the Rest of Florida – FSU is fondly referred to as the Berkeley of the South. We have a smattering of political backgrounds, from Tea Partiers to the leftist radicals (who throw a neat Radical Rush biannually); student unions for various religious groups, ethnicities and sexual orientations (think PRIDE Student Union) and are working to be the most veteran friendly school in the Southeast. Students range from rednecks that crawled out of Wakulla to rich kids from Miami-Dade.

Eh, It's College Food. Fresh Food was my jam as a freshman. Since I lived at Salley Hall, it was just a hop, skip and a jump away. The inside of the Suwannee Room is reminiscent of Hogwarts' dining hall, too. You can use the flexbucks or Garnetbucks at most of the eateries on campus, which is good for a little variety. Avoid the stirfry place unless you're getting sushi.

At Least It's Not UF. A fairly average experience compared to other schools I've attended. My own department didn't have an advisor and so our snarky gay secretary did all of the advising (and badly!), the professors were well-trained but often disinterested in your problems, and the work load wasn't terrible either. As for study spots, Club Stroz! All the kids are on uppers like at a real nightclub and they hand out sunglasses and other fun things during exam weeks. (The Starbucks at Stroz is double countered and 24 hours, too.)

The greek life on campus is overly active, sometimes overwhelming non greek student. For the most part they are socially the most important thing on campus, a lot of people are looked down on for not being a part of greek life.

Leech Center – The gym on campus is state of the art and absolutely incredible. The library is terrific, campus is beautiful.

Health & Safety:
Super Safe – I always feel safe on campus, FSUPD are extremely helpful and reliable.

Good but Expensive! The food tastes great, I never got bored with it . However it is very repetitive and sometimes unhealthier than I would have liked. The meal plans are a bit expensive I wish I had gone with a cheaper one, but again the food tastes great!

forlife for the most part it is the football team, the baseball team, and the basketball team that we all care about. They are our teams, they represent us and the school, and even if they don't play a good game or play a good season, everyone on campus continually cheers ands supports them and we are all very proud that they are our teams.

Greek life is huge at FSU. Although I am not involved in Greek life it is quite obvious once you visit FSU that it is a huge part of the University's culture. Sorority houses are lavish mansions located next to campus and a handful of frat houses are located about a mile away in their own housing complex.

Off campus housing is extremely popular at FSU. 3rd party university housing is located all around campus and houses are easy to find. Just be careful on choosing what neighborhood to live in.

Computer labs are located throughout campus allowing for easy access. The internet is extremely reliable and fast.

Absolutely Terrible – On campus dining is absolutely horrible at FSU. Chili's and Denny's are the only restaurants open on the weekends, so unless you feel like traveling off campus, you're screwed. Off campus dining is a little better, but if you're traveling between 8 am and 7 pm Monday-Friday chances are you'll be inconvenienced when coming back on campus, especially if driving your own car. The Union Food Court and all other dining options are decent, but it closes at 6 pm.
I tend to avoid the dining halls because with my allergies I can't take the chance with everyone taking food and possible contamination. This is also why I lack a meal plan, but I have found that FlexBucks work perfectly.
Between the hours and repetitive food options, FSU could use some updating!!

Party Environment – The "drug environment" at Florida State University is not that big. When students go to parties, they tend to smoke or drink. However, outside that "party environment" there is not much of a drug scene, mainly because most of the students are concentrated on the studies.

I love FSU so much because of the green and architecture. The buildings are all brick and there are lots of places to study outside when the days are nice. I also like the social scene and the amount of academics and IM sports offered. Also because everyone is so socially and racially different, you get to experience a lot of cultures everyday!

I Don't Know Much – I don't really know much about the Greek life in school but I do know that thay are always proactive in recruiting new members.

I have looked all over the place to find the best possible apartment and when I found it Ii realized that all the places I've looked at was worth the price and the benefits. I think that everything around the FSU area is reasonable and safe. Plus they provide shuttle buses for people with no cars. I also love the freedom of apartments or houses. No quiet hours, visitation limits, you can have candles, not like the dorms.

Intelligent Students Beware!!! If you worked hard at all during high school and care even the smallest bit about the quality of your education, I implore you, please reconsider coming to Florida State. Please take this advice from a person who made all the right choices except one and do not choose this university. You deserve so much more than what FSU has to offer; please, please, please consider your other options- you will be much happier in the long run!

Why the H*** Would You Live in a Dorm??? The better housing is farther away from the school, although most students live in the blocks surrounding campus to be near the party scene. If you don't mind driving moving farther away will give more bang for your buck; if you just want a cheap "college" apartment they are not in short supply by any means- you'll find tons surrounding the school.

Better Than on Campus by a Ton – Tally has a lot of really good restaurants; one of the few things to do in the city is eat out (though if you do this all the time you will probably gain some weight!). Try to get away from the campus areas for the better quality options- lots of good places on the north side of the city.

Nothing to do in Tallahassee if you do not like drinking/recreational drugs. FSU is an enormous party school, so if you like that scene you will not be bored. If, however, you are not into binge drinking constantly for entertainment, you will spend most days hanging out at home.

Not the Worst – Financial aid is pretty accessible, and you don't have to jump through too many hoops to secure it. Once you follow the steps, financial aid personnel are very helpful, and you don't have to put too much time into it. Occasionally there are screw-ups, but that is to be expected with such a large student base.

There is great opportunity for those who decide to join the greek life at F.S.U. They are fairly involved in campus life, and many do a lot to help out the community. The best part though is the major-supportive sororities and fraternities. But going greek isn't of huge importance campus-wide, and there isn't much conflict between greek and non-greeks.
College Senior 2012-01-26T16:23:33Z
School spirit, team performance, athletic facilities, all of these are excellent! Everyone in the community, and even across Florida, feel like they are "apart of the team".

I am sure that most large universities struggle with a lack of parking, but I find FSU particularly frustrating when it comes to this subject. I have had days when I drive around for half an hour looking in several lots and garages and end up either missing class or getting a ticket for parking illegally. They definitely need to come up with better parking solutions that are closer to campus.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
