Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

While illegal drugs are present on campus, they aren’t highly visible, and most students don’t pay much attention to them. Alcohol and marijuana are the drugs of choice, although harder stuff, like ecstasy and amphetamines are available if you know where to look. Although some hard drugs are present, serious abuse is not a problem here. FSU does have a student chapter of NORML (National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws), and we recently saw the first of what is planned to become an annual Hemp Fest held in Doak Campbell Stadium.

FSU has a very strict drug policy. However, the users and abusers tend to stay off the radar, so you won’t hear much about arrests and expulsions. For the most part, the drug culture is quiet and secretive. People who want to be involved in it can find it on their own, while those who prefer to stay clean won’t be tempted. Drugs aren’t pushed on anyone, and no one will be forced to do them should they choose not to. It isn’t as if dealers are vending their wares in the hallways.

Drinking Is Pretty Popular

The majority of students do not drink, but the ones who do are well known that they do. Drinking is the most prevalent activity. If there are drugs, it is usually just smoking.

It Is Present

At our school most of the parties and drinking take place off campus, but there is some drinking in residence halls. If it is discovered there are severe consequences. During football game and tailgating there is pretty much drinking everywhere.

A Common Issue

Overall, FSU is a pretty big party school. Peer pressure is not a big deal, but its not difficult to find drugs and alcohol. The school will enforce its policies pertaining to drugs and alcohol if you get caught violating them.
