Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Most students at FSU will admit that one of the more popular pastimes on campus is admiring the student body. The warm weather offers ample opportunity to bask in the sun. It also gives people a chance to show a little more skin. It can sometimes be distracting during the summer months, but you’d be hard-pressed to find someone that complains about it. As if that weren’t enough, FSU students are also some of the friendliest in the South. Of course, in Tallahassee, the women outnumber men at a little over two to one, but that doesn’t interfere with anyone making new friends.

Both the male and female students here are not afraid to show their stuff, especially during the warmer months. One of the more popular activities on campus is sitting on Landis Green and admiring other students basking in the warm summer sun. You can also attend the regularly-scheduled bikini and hard body contests sponsored by some of the local drinking establishments. Besides being easy on the eyes, the student body here also tends to be friendly and sociable. People aren’t afraid to say hello or offer assistance if you look like you’re in need. Southern hospitality is contagious, and FSU is considered one of the most student-friendly campuses in the nation.

Florida State University's Student Population

The students at FSU are extremely versatile. I am a dance major and am usually grouped together with the other dance majors. Most of the students in my major are very artistic and tend to dress either casually, athletically, or creatively. There are many students involved in greek life, who have tendencies to look and dress very nicely- focusing on what is most in style to wear, etc. The general social life of the FSU population is very busy and outgoing. People are constantly caught up in school work, jobs, or extra-curricular activities. When they have free time, many students go out to clubs, bars, and house parties. A great place to really catch a glimpse of our student diversity is to go to the student Union on a Wednesday afternoon. There you will find all kinds of guys and girls trying to promote a cause, an organization, or a team. I think it is a fun atmosphere where you can notice that FSU has a wide range of people on campus with many looks, interests and focuses.

Pretty Good

I won’t say the guys here are better looking than the ones from my home country, I still think Brazil is better for that matter, but FSU is not far behind. You can find all kinds of person and there’s no lack of good looking people all around.

How would you rate the social scene on campus?

Facts

Social Scene

The majority of students will agree that Florida State is one of the friendliest places in the country. Sure, it can be awkward at first, but it won't take long to meet new people and find a crowd to hang out with.

Hookups or Relationships?

While there are a number of couples on campus, there is also a thriving singles scene. There are several bars on the edge of campus—along the Tennessee Street Strip—that cater to the singles crowd with ladies-night drink specials and other events that offer the opportunity to mix and mingle.

Best Places to Meet Guys/Girls

This depends on how outgoing you are. You can meet people just by hanging out in the dorms, but to really broaden your circle of friends, it's a good idea to participate in a student organization or some extracurricular activity. Many students do volunteer work in and around Tallahassee. Joining a fraternity or sorority is also a great place to meet other interesting students.

Dress Code

The students at FSU tend to dress casually. There are a few who are brave enough to dress up, but you have to remember, this is Florida, and the summer here can be warm and humid. From May to October, most people will be wearing shorts, T-shirts, and flip-flops. This isn't to say that they dress like slobs—just that most students dress for comfort.
