The Scenery

Everyone loves the landscaping that FSU have even got transfers from UF because of that. Also it is not so huge to where you end up getting lost

Florida State University was never my first choice school. I never thought that I would end up here, but now that I have, I would not want to leave. What makes FSU so incredible is that there is something for everyone! I know that many schools boast about this, but at FSU it's the truth. There are hundreds of student organizations that anyone can find a home in. The facilities are top notch from the gym to our own reservation. There is always something going on at campus. The surrounding community offers something for you to do at any time. I could gush about FSU for hours, but the only way to find out for yourself is to apply and attend the Florida State University!

Facts

Traditions
  • Fountain Fling: Another demented tradition is skinny dipping in Westcott Fountain. To make it all the more interesting, the school now has a live Web-cam recording the fountain 24 hours a day.
  • Planting of the Spear: Possibly the most famous tradition at FSU is the planting of the spear by Chief Osceola, played by a lucky student. Prior to kickoff, Chief Osceola, riding his horse, Renegade, gallops onto the field and plants a flaming spear at midfield to begin every home game.
  • Sex at the Stadium: One tradition that has become increasingly difficult to pull off is having sex on the 50-yard line at Doak Campbell Stadium. Unfortunately, recent renovations have made it much more secure than it used to be, and the success rate has dropped off dramatically.
  • Sod Cemetery: The sod cemetery began when the first piece of sod was buried in the corner of the Florida State practice field, and a monument was placed to commemorate a road victory against Georgia in 1960. The tradition of planting a piece of sod from a road win stuck and is continued to this day.
Urban Legends
  • It is said that the Pensacola Street Bridge was closed and torn down because head football coach Bobby Bowden didn’t like the fact that people could stand on it and watch the football team practice inside Doak Campbell Stadium.
  • Strozier Library is rumored to be haunted.
  • The school is supposedly built on an ancient Seminole Indian burial ground. Hence the mascot.
